Our Story
The Center for Academic Equity is a new member of the Tulane family. Newcomb Tulane College established the Center in the fall of 2016 to address inclusion and leadership needs identified in the President's Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience.
We have as our mission supporting academic excellence and equity for POSSE, College Track, First-Generation, LGBTQ students and all students of color and ethnic minorities. Our mission is to systematically offer high quality leadership programming and simultaneously address the obstacles to matriculation that these students often face because of prejudice, stereotyping, economic ad past educational inequities.
At the Center for Academic Equity students will be able to meet and find a home to discuss micro and macro aggressions, access information about internships and scholarship opportunities, apply for grant money to attend conferences, and engage in weekly academic development discussions at Equity Thursdays. The Center for Academic Equity works to ensure that these students have access to the same academic experience as every Tulane student and that they are encouraged and given opportunities to pursue the highest level of academic achievement.
