Tulane Law Library

Tulane Law Library The official page for Law Library of Tulane University Law School. An additional 40 students are enrolled in Tulane Law School's LLM and SJD programs.

Please visit our website for more information about our services to students, faculty, alumni, scholars, and the community at large. Located on the main campus of Tulane University in uptown New Orleans, Tulane Law School has been accredited by the American Bar Association since May 1925. The JD student body comprises 750 students from throughout the US, with just 15% from the state of Louisiana.

At least 45 states are represented in the student body, as are close to 200 undergraduate schools. Approximately 47% of the student body is female, and about 20% are students of color. Our students tell us the Law School experience at Tulane is one they would gladly repeat. They tell us they are happier than their friends at other law schools and that the combination of the exceptional educational opportunities available at Tulane Law School, and the chance to live in the culturally rich and aesthetically charming city of New Orleans is the ultimate educational experience. Among the things that set Tulane Law School apart are the breadth and depth of its curriculum. Its curricular strengths include international and comparative law, maritime law, and environmental law. It offers six certificates of specialization in: European Legal Studies, International & Comparative Law, Civil Law, Maritime Law, Environmental Law, and Sports Law. It offers six different live-client clinics: criminal defense, civil litigation, juvenile litigation, environmental law, domestic violence, mediation, and legislative and administrative advocacy. Its business and corporate course offerings are strong, as is its intellectual property law curriculum. Tulane Law School was the first in the country to require pro bono legal work as a condition of graduation.

Did you know the Law School used to publish a magazine? ⚖️

“The Bench: Tulane’s Legal Magazine” distributed publications from 1984 to 1987. It welcomed and included contributions from all members of the Tulane Law Community, including rather scandalous opinions of professors and campus happenings.

Our Library Aides recommend you check out Louisiana Law from our Louisiana Collection! They wrote:

"Just finished Louisiana Law Legends and Laughs by Frank Maraist and Henry Politz, and I absolutely loved it! Crazy thing is: I’m not even a Law student! The stories inside this book are hilarious, heartfelt, and full of personality. Read this book and enjoy the charm and wit of Louisiana’s legal legends. Highly recommend for anyone who loves good story telling with a Southern twist!"

Our Library Aides recommend you check out Deep Delta Justice by Matthew Van Meter and wrote the following:

"In 1966 in a small town in Louisiana, a 19-year-old black man named Gary Duncan pulled his car off the road to stop a fight. Duncan was arrested a few minutes later for the crime of putting his hand on the arm of a white child. Using first-person interviews, in-depth research, and a deep knowledge of the law, Van Meter shows how Gary Duncan’s insistence on seeking justice empowered generations of defendants – disproportionately poor and black – to demand fair trials."

Check out this new addition to the library! “Managed Dissent: The Law of Public Protest” examines the state of our public demonstration laws in the wake of the George Floyd Protests of 2020. Zick argues for the American tradition of protest and for legal reform surrounding protest restrictions. To take a look, find it on the “New Books” shelving by the stairwell!
