The goal of the NIH BUILD program, and Project Pathways at Xavier, is to increase diversity in the biomedical research workforce.

We're proud to be one of more than 50 public and private partners in a statewide effort that has won the largest and most competitive grant ever awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) up to $160 million over the next 10 years. The NSF Louisiana Transition Engine (NSF Engines) grant is focused on energy transition and decarbonization of Louisiana’s industrial corridor and will support Future Use of Energy in Louisiana, or FUEL.

FUEL is driven to focus on influencing three core functions: Use-Inspired Research and Development, Workforce Development, and Translation of Innovation to Practice/Technology Commercialization.

As a core partner in FUEL, is strongly represented in the partnership and played a crucial role in developing the core functional areas.

Closing out is Biology major, Kayla! She chose as XULA is known for sending the most Black students to medical school. XULA helped her discover her passion for research and in the future, she plans to obtain her Ph.D. in genetics or immunology.

She believes XULA has provided her with the education and preparation necessary to be a leader beyond the classroom! She plans to obtain her M.S. in Biomedical Sciences and pursue medical school.

's Chemistry major, Amanda! She initially chose for her interest in engineering but pivoted to science after falling in love with chemistry! She plans to pursue her Ph.D. in chemistry, hoping to develop vaccines and medications for the community.
