Hall of Fame Class of 2026 Inductee Spotlight: XAVIER “BUTCH” WEBSTER (Men’s Basketball | 1969–1971)

Xavier “Butch” Webster helped establish Privateer basketball during its first two seasons, becoming the program’s first All-American. In just 49 games, he totaled 1,235 points and 612 rebounds and set school career records for scoring average (25.2) and rebounding average (12.5).

As a senior, Webster earned unanimous first-team All-American honors while leading the Privateers to a 23–5 record and the No. 1 ranking in the final NCAA Division II Associated Press poll. His 48-point performance at Ball State in 1970 remains the school’s single-game scoring record, and he is the only Privateer with three career 40-point games—all accomplished consecutively. Webster was selected by the Buffalo Braves in the 1971 NBA Draft, leaving a legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.
