Good afternoon everyone. I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well after Hurricane Ida made it’s way through our state.

As you know, New Orleans is significantly impacted with loss of power and some lines of communication. Members of our clinical team are all well, but scattered to different evacuation sites, and to safe homes in New Orleans. We are communicating with each other.

We are not yet sure when normal care services will be able to resume but we can be helpful in getting supplies to you if you need them before things return to normal. We will keep you updated as we can.

The best way to contact us is through our group email: [email protected]. That reaches both Drs Andersson and Upadia, and all 3 of the nutritionists.

Please email us or post here if you are concerned that you may not have enough formula or medications to last for more than 2-3 weeks. The more time you give us before you are out the easier this will be.

We will need to know:
1. A workable cell phone number for you.
2. If you evacuated:
-Where are you now?
-Do you know when you will be able to return home?
-If you will need to go to somewhere to stay for a longer time, where will that be?
3. Whether you evacuated or not:
-If you are running low on formula, and you receive your formula from the state program, what formulas will you need and how much of each formula is prescribed for a day?
-How long will what you have on hand last?
-What medications will you need and what dosages do you take/give each day?
-How long will what you have with you last.

We all hope for a speedy return to normal!

Hello everyone,

Another storm season is upon us and we want to be sure we have the most current contact information for you and your family. We ask that you update your contact and evaluation information by emailing [email protected].

If New Orleans is NOT affected by the storm, you can reach us at 504-988-5101. The after hours emergency number is 504-988-5263 (ask the operator for the geneticist on-call).

If New Orleans IS affected by the store, you can reach us here on our page.

If you have to evacuate, contact us as soon as possible so we know how to reach you. We can help you access emergency care in your area and obtain medication and formula as needed.

What can you do to be prepared? If you evacuate take these things with you...
-At least 2 weeks of medications and medical formula.
-Supplies you need to measure, mix, and store medical formula and medications.
-A supply of low protein foods that need little preparation. Order extra non-perishable low protein foods now.
-Contact information for your local health unit and your genetics clinic center.
-Your ER Emergency Letter (if applicable).

The SERGG/SERN Consumer Group has developed a Toolkit for emergency preparedness which we encourage you to look at. It can be found at: https://southeastgenetics.org/ept or on the Consumer Alliance page at:
http://southeastgenetics.org/committees.php/6/general/Consumer_Alliance

We hope 2018 hurricane season will be kind to us all, but being prepared ahead of time is most important.

RE: AUGUST 14 FLOODING IN LOUISIANA!!
Hello All,
We know there may have been flooding in your area, or you may have had to evacuate your home. Our thoughts are with you all.
This flooding emergency may come at a time when you were ready to re-order, or pick up formula or medications. Most health units in the southern Louisiana area will be closed tomorrow, but they are hopeful that they will re-open very soon.

If you are low on formula or medications, and don’t think you will be able to get to your health unit in the next few days to pick them up, please contact us and we will arrange for an emergency supply to be sent to you. If you are low on Kuvan, we can arrange for an extra supply of that as well.

These are the things we will need to know if you don’t have enough supplies to last several days:
The formula and/or medication you need
How long you think the formula or medication you have on hand will last
A physical address where you can receive mail – so we can have an emergency supply sent to you. This can’t be a PO box.
A contact phone number where we can reach you if it is different from your usual one.
New Orleans is not affected by the flooding, so you can reach us at our group email [email protected] or tomorrow at our office number of 504-988-5101.

If you need to talk today – you can reach Amy at 504-813-8727.

If you have a medical emergency, please contact the Tulane Hospital operator paging system: 504-988-5263 or 800-588-5800 then ask for the geneticist on call.
