Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) is tribally chartered by the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation headquarters at New Town, North Dakota. NHSC is tribally controlled by a Board of Directors, which consist of seven-members. The College was founded May 2, 1973, as the agency responsible for higher education on the Fort Berthold Reservation. The Three Affiliated Tribes endorsed the concept that a locally based higher education institution was needed to train Tribal members and to act as a positive influence in retaining the Tribal cultures.

REMEMBERING BERNADINE YOUNG BIRD

Relatives, students, faculty, and staff,

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Bernadine Young Bird, our respected and beloved elder, longtime Native American Studies instructor, former college board member, and champion of Indigenous education throughout her lifetime passed on this weekend.

The Culture Center is open as a quiet gathering space this week, for anyone who needs support. Students in Bernadine's classes are advised to reach out to NAS faculty Delvin Driver Jr., Charlie Moran, and Department Chair Michael Barthelemy regarding courses and coursework. Staff and faculty are advised to make reasonable accommodations regarding deadlines.

Please be gentle with yourselves and one another.

Dr. Twyla Baker
