Touro University Graduate School of Education Preparing highly qualified educators, leaders, and knowledge professionals. Each of these programs offers both classroom and online courses.

Touro's Graduate School of Education was officially established in 1993 and, today, is among the largest schools of education in the state of New York. Our enrollment draws on the constantly-evolving urban community of New York and reflects an extremely diverse student body, including students from all over the world. Consistent with Touro's mission, the School of Education remains solidly committed to high quality universal education. Our goal is to offer exemplary programs and to graduate outstanding students prepared to provide superior future leadership in the field of education. In addition to serving traditional full-time graduates who have recently completed their undergraduate degrees, Touro’s Graduate School of Education supports the academic needs of applicants who are already employed and who desire to upgrade their professional preparation or obtain additional credentials. Therefore, evening, weekend, and online classes are offered to accommodate the needs of working professionals. The School of Education, the largest in the Division of Graduate Studies, is dedicated to excellence in education for a rapidly-changing education environment. In order to provide school districts and other educational agencies with highly professional and competent teachers, administrators, and educational personnel, every effort is made to maximize the quality of our programs. To this end, the School continues to strengthen its internal systems for supporting the high performance of both students and faculty; develop new programs that can effectively meet the contemporary needs of schools – especially those serving high-needs and diverse student bodies; and expand the School's collaboration with a wide range of national and state stakeholders in education. At P.S. 100, The Coney Island School, these three C’s help create a welcoming community where Touro University’s Graduate School of Education teaching candidates can learn, contribute, and grow.

Under Principal Spagnolo’s leadership, Touro candidates are welcomed into the school community and supported as they develop their teaching practice.
Reflecting on her path to education, Julia shared:
“My decision to become a teacher grew from my experiences as a mother and a school volunteer. Spending time in my daughter’s classroom showed me how much a caring teacher can influence a child’s confidence, motivation, and overall school experience.”
Her words remind us how meaningful classroom connections can inspire future educators. ✨
P.S. 100 also shares its building with P.S. 370, a District 75 school. Together, they work to build a connected school environment rooted in shared responsibility for the Coney Island community.

Join Touro University’s Graduate School of Education for the GSE SHINES 2026 Teaching and Learning Conference—a day of inspiration, collaboration, and innovation with educators, researchers, graduate students, and community partners.
🎤 We’re pleased to welcome keynote speaker Jennifer Ramos, CPRL’s Senior Director of Research Strategy and Consulting. A former Dean of Relay Graduate School of Education’s New York campus and high school science teacher, Ramos brings extensive experience in educator preparation, school leadership, and teacher development. Her work has emphasized equity, culturally responsive pedagogy, universal design for learning, and socio-emotional learning.
Together, we’ll explore three connected themes:
💙 Presence: Cultivating mindful, inclusive, and authentic connections.
🤝 Partnership: Building meaningful relationships across schools, families, and communities.
📚 Practice: Advancing evidence-informed, reflective, and purposeful teaching.

Stronger connections. Shared purpose. A lasting impact on education. 💙

This week, Touro University’s Graduate School of Education welcomed our Advisory Board for its first official meeting of the academic year.

Bringing perspectives from classrooms, schools, and communities across New York State, members include teachers, school leaders, retired educators, and community partners, alongside GSE leadership.

Building on our AAQEP accreditation and commitment to continuous improvement, the board will help guide our work to keep GSE programs responsive to the evolving needs of schools, educators, and students.

Our opening meeting offered an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and begin shaping shared goals for the year ahead.

Building Connections, Supporting Success 💙

Last Sunday, Touro University’s Graduate School of Education welcomed students at our Brooklyn campus for a Meet & Greet focused on the people, resources, and guidance that support their journey toward becoming educators.

Students connected with faculty, staff, and fellow candidates while learning about certification planning, fieldwork, registration, and tracking their progress toward graduation. Presentations also highlighted the GEMMA Student Resource Website, academic advising, and student wellness and disability services—helping candidates understand where to turn when they need support.

It was inspiring to see so many new and familiar faces, including our alumna Stephanie Georges, pictured on the right in the first image. A NYC Teaching Academy mentor teacher, Stephanie draws on her understanding and application of teacher readiness to guide student teachers in developing their practice and meeting quality standards.

Through shared refreshments and friendly conversations, the gathering strengthened connections across our Brooklyn learning community.

Learning together. Growing together.
Last week, Touro University Teaching Residents (TUTR) and their mentor teachers came together for an orientation and retreat centered on collaboration, reflection, and the partnerships that support great teaching.
Led by Dr. Suzanne Pratt, Assistant Professor at Touro University, the TUTR program supports aspiring educators as they develop their classroom practice alongside experienced mentors.
Through group discussions and creative activities, participants explored their roles, shared meaningful classroom moments, and considered what it means to guide and support a developing educator. Together, they built a shared vision for their work and planned for continued learning through the spring.
One message captured the spirit of the day: “We all have something to contribute. We all have something to learn.”

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Nelly Lejter, Dean of Touro University’s Graduate School of Education, on her election as incoming Vice President of the New York Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (NYACTE)!
Her two-year term begins January 1, 2027. In accordance with NYACTE’s bylaws, she will then serve as President for an additional two years.
NYACTE represents New York State colleges and universities that prepare teachers and other professional educators. As the state affiliate of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), it plays a vital role in shaping educator preparation policy and maintaining dialogue with the New York State Education Department.
Touro GSE faculty regularly contribute to NYACTE’s annual conference, sharing research, innovative teaching practices, and perspectives on the future of educator preparation. Dean Lejter’s election builds on this engagement and creates new opportunities to contribute to statewide collaboration and advocacy.
We proudly echo the congratulations shared by Dr. Patricia Salkin, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost of the Graduate and Professional Divisions, in celebrating this achievement for Dean Lejter and the entire GSE community.

Professional growth and a meaningful reunion!
Thomas Troisi, Assistant Professor of School Leadership at Touro University’s Graduate School of Education, worked with building principals and district leaders from Massapequa UFSD to hone their teacher evaluation skills.
The day also brought a meaningful reunion with Dr. Amanda Lowry, a former high school social studies student of Professor Troisi’s who now serves as an elementary school principal in the district.
“I am extremely proud of all that she has achieved!” Professor Troisi shared.
A rewarding reminder of the lasting connections educators build and the future leaders they help inspire.

“ My goal is to create a safe space where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.” 💙
Meet Leotha Andrew, a Touro University Graduate School of Education School Counseling master’s candidate and Holmes Scholar whose commitment to student well-being guides her journey toward becoming a school counselor.
As a paraprofessional with the New York City Department of Education, Leotha sees how challenges with organization, time management, and emotional regulation can affect students’ learning and confidence. Her goal is to help students strengthen these skills, build resilience, and develop greater independence.
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Empire State College, Leotha brings a foundation in understanding people and a passion for building meaningful relationships. She also plans to pursue a second master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling to deepen her ability to serve students, families, and communities.
“The Holmes Master’s Scholarship Program will support my growth as a future counselor and leader,” she shares.
Leotha’s dedication reflects the promise of Touro’s Holmes Scholars Program: supporting aspiring education professionals as they develop their leadership and prepare to make a meaningful difference.
