Military Veterans of Columbia University

Military Veterans of Columbia University Our mission is to provide military Veterans with support at Columbia University in order to facilita The U.S.

Military Veterans of Columbia University, also known as Milvets, is the largest student veterans organization in the Ivy League and includes more than 95% of all Ivy League undergraduate veterans. Our membership includes men and women from every branch of the armed forces who have served in countless operations throughout the globe. As students, we utilize our experiences to bring a unique perspec

tive to the classroom, enhancing the education of all Columbia students while striving to close the gap between our nation’s military and the society it serves. Founded in 2002, we join a long tradition of veteran scholars at Columbia, dating back to the end of World War II and the creation of the nontraditional student program to serve the needs of returning GIs. Support for the Milvets comes from the administration of Columbia University, the School of General Studies, and the Activities Board at Columbia. Additional contributions have been made by the Student Veterans of America, HonorVet.org, and American Corporate Partners. Military Veterans of Columbia University operates within the organization and structure of Columbia University in the City of New York, which is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

This weekend, current and past MilVets attended the NYC “To & Through” Back-to-School Celebration hosted by Service2School.

It was a great way to kick off the year with the S2S community across New York and New Jersey!

Students and alumni were able to connect with peers and hear from guest speaker Jack Murphy (3rd Ranger Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group Columbia graduate; national security journalist; author of We Defy).

This event was organized by U.S. Army Veteran and GS alum, Jacob Ashton!

⭐️Student Veteran Spotlight⭐️

For this week’s Student Veteran Spotlight, we are proud to highlight David Garland!

David is from Springfield, Missouri, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2015 as a Master at Arms. ⚓️ He is a rising senior majoring in economics and a member of the Columbia Lions football team. 🏈

His favorite thing about Columbia is our football team and our location in New York City. 🌃 One fun fact about David is that Brad Pitt went to his rival high school. 🍎
