❗Want to be part of the Japanese club for the 2025-2026 academic year? Well, applications are now open!!❗

In order to complete your application, you must attend one of the following information sessions via zoom. Zoom links will be sent to your email the day of the session. You will receive an email following your information session with the link to the application.

On May 12th, our advanced Japanese class will be hosting an exhibition on the 8th Floor Faculty Cafeteria from 11:30-12:45 PM.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn and meet members of the NYC Japanese community as well as connect with the other students in the Japanese program!

Right after, we will also have a celebration for the students for completing this course in the Japanese program. It will also be located at the 8th Floor Faculty Cafeteria and the celebration will last from 7:30-9:30 PM.

👘Discovery Within Traditions: Kimono, Dance & Music👘

Want to see a traditional Japanese style dance? Japan Performing Arts Inc. is hosting two shows at 3PM & 6:30PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre on Sunday May 4th. This event is free!!

Make sure to RSVP as the seats are going to be assigned by first-come, first-served basis, so with your booking, we recommend you to come to the theater early.

🍿Kazue's Movie Night🍿

Kazue's Movie Night is a tradition held by the Japanese Club in honor of our classmate Kazue Kobashi, who passed away last year. In her memory we watch one of her favorite movies together every semester. This time we will be watching Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.

*Drinks and nut-free snacks will be provided

Date: Friday, May 2nd- 3:15 ~ 5:30pm

🌸Want to experience a Japanese High School Festival?🌸

Well you will be able to experience a Japanese high school festival and connect with Japanese students in New York, fostering cultural exchange. Explore the campus, and engage in the tradition of Hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Keio Academy students will also be performing Noh theater!

**Spots are limited and students will be chosen through a raffle. Students will be expected to cover their own transportation fees. The estimated total is around $26.

This event is off-campus at Keio Academy - 3 College Rd, Purchase, NY 10577

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing okay during finals~!

The Japanese club has prepared our last event of 2024 which is Kazue’s Movie Night

As part of a tradition to honor a classmate who passed away last year, we watch one of her favorite movies every semester. This time we’ll be watching *Your Name*. Join us in celebrating her life together and keeping her memory alive at Hunter 💟
**nut-free food, snacks, and beverages will be provided.

Date: Thursday, December 19th 5:30 - 7:30pm.

Get to know your peers in the program, enjoy food, live music performances, exciting contests, and fun!🥳

The costume contests are split into two categories: Halloween costumes, and cosplay costumes. You may participate in one of the costume categories and the quiz, but you cannot compete in both categories of the costume contest

Dress up as your favorite character! Winner will be chosen by popular vote.

🎃Halloween Costume Contest Category🎃
Prize: $100 Visa Gift card
Not into cosplay? No problem! You can enter the Halloween costume category as whatever you want. Winner will be chosen by popular vote.

🗾 Hokkaido Quiz Contest🗾
Prize: (used) Nintendo Switch Lite
For the Hokkaido quiz contest, participants should study the history, geography, and culture of the island of Hokkaido. Winner will be determined through elimination.

*Nut-free food, snacks, and drinks will be provided.

There will be a Japanese Food Festival on Saturday October 12 in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. They are looking for volunteers who can assist the stage manager such as food preparation, distribution, game booths, yard sale, parking, information desk, dressing in traditional Kimono(着付け), setup and cleanup, assisting with performances, and helping on the stage.

Next Monday, Japanese Consulate members Tomoe Sato and Midori Goto will be giving a lecture about "Black School Rules" which are extremely strict rules in Japanese schools. The lecture will be using Easy Japanese and anyone is welcome to join! The lecture will be located in Hunter West Building 619.

We are excited to announce that we will have an Alumni Q & A event on October 11 from 8:00-9:15 PM. Guest speakers will include recent graduates who are currently in the JET program, working at the Japanese Consulate, Japanese performing arts and more!!
