General information
What is the function of the Executive Board of the Student Union? The Student Union serves students in three different areas: 1. Community Building: SUEB assists and co-sponsors student activities by supporting Student Organizations – aka “Caucuses” – such as the Black Caucus, the Social International Welfare Caucus, and the Feminist Caucus. There are over 20 Student Caucuses at CUSSW! A full listing is available on the CUSSW website. SUEB also helps students run projects that augment community building. 2. Advocacy: SUEB responds to student concerns that are brought to its attention. We can serve as an intermediary between students and administrators. For example, each semester SUEB surveys students in order to capitalize on assets and to identify weaknesses. The Academic Senator represents CUSSW on the Columbia University Academic Senate. SUEB selects student representatives for Curricular Committees and assist or collaborates in activities connected to the larger Columbia community. 3. Special Events: SUEB sponsors student events throughout the year. Some of these events include, but are not limited to: Self Care Day (Fall Semester), Community Day (Spring Semester) and the annual gala.
