Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability

Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability AHDA is based at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR)

AHDA brings together academics, representatives of civil society organization, journalists, educators and artists as well as policy makers who all pursue historical dialogue in conflict, post-conflict and post-dictatorial societies. They address the political ramifications of the historical legacy of conflicts, as well as the role and impact of the memory of past violence on contemporary politics,

society and culture. These ramifications often continue to haunt contemporary societies and the memories that shape the identities of protagonists in numerous conflict and post-conflict countries around the world. AHDA builds networks and facilitates comparative as well as interdisciplinary dialogue among its members.

WORLD WAR 2 PEACE: Human Rights Day Showcase
Tuesday, 7 December 2021, 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. CET

How can understanding the past inspire a more peaceful future? Join Bosch Alumni Network members from around the world for a Human Rights Day event exploring the local impact and global resonance of historical research on peacebuilding!

Featuring presentations by:
Ulviyya Babayeva (Azerbaijan): "Rural Women in Peacebuilding: A Female Perspective on the Karabakh Conflict and Approaches to Peace”
Michele Dore (Italy): “Nights of the Talking Statues”
Sarah Kuvenguhwa (Zimbabwe): “Artivism and Culture Activities: A New Local Approach to Peacebuilding”
Garima Naidu (India): “Peacebuilding Using Technology: Cases from India”
Nataliya Nikolova (Bulgaria): “Monuments and Art: Inclusive Stories”
Jolanta Steciuk (Poland/Germany): “Place: Reconciliation in the (Global) Village”

Launched within the Bosch Alumni Network’s Peace Cluster in the spring of 2021, World War 2 Peace has brought together an international team of peace practitioners to document the legacies of social movements in their home countries and engage communities in dialogue about the past. Researchers combed the archives, conducted interviews, and created multimedia documentation projects in order to explore unique approaches to peacebuilding on the local level and share insights with a global audience.

Please join us on 7 December 2021 for an interactive showcase and Q&A session with the researchers from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. CET for those based in Europe and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. EST for those on the East Coast of the U.S. Attendees are also welcome to participate in a brief brainstorming session following the main event, which will include discussions about digital storytelling applications of these research findings.

Please RSVP to this event page: https://www.boschalumni.net/events/74450 for access to the Zoom room and check out our project page: https://www.humanrightscolumbia.org/ahda/world-war-2-peace-documenting-history-peacebuilding for additional details on World War 2 Peace. This project was created through the first Bosch Alumni Network Peace Cluster ideas pitch in winter 2021, and is generously supported by the International Alumni Center Berlin and the Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability at Columbia University.
