SVA MFA Interaction Design

SVA MFA Interaction Design The MFA in Interaction Design program trains students to research, analyze, prototype, and design concepts in their business, social, and cultural contexts.

MFA Interaction Design focuses on concepts central to interaction design, design research, human-computer interaction, interface design, graphic design, information architecture and ubiquitous computing. The program is as much about invention as it is about the everyday. It requires students to be intimately attentive to human behavior and to think holistically about the products and services they

create. It explores the strategic role of interaction design in shaping everyday life, and intends to increase the relevancy of design to business and society so designers can make a difference. Where we stand in the history of the future is a tremendous opportunity for the design of interactions. The MFA Interaction Design Program seeks to cultivate interaction design as a discipline and further its visibility as a community of practice. We invite all to participate as students, as teachers, as collaborators, and as citizens. More information, visit: http://interactiondesign.sva.edu/

BRIDGING THE DISTANCE | Nikki Ross
Bridging the gap of physical distance, this project reimagines how technology can hold space for the subtle, emotional nuances of a long-distance relationship. It moves beyond simple video calls to create tangible, interactive moments that help partners feel truly present in each other’s daily lives.

BOB THE BLOB | Fiona Szeto
Online social games are powerful spaces for people to find meaningful connections. But the systems they live inside are built to maximize engagement. And over time, players’ social lives can become contained within the platform itself, making it harder to step away. Bob is a cross-platform gaming companion that helps players see how gaming actually affects them, explore interests beyond the screen, and discover what they share with their gaming friends outside the game itself. The goal isn’t less gaming. It’s recovering what online games can be at their best: a place to connect, not a place that traps.

BARGAINING WITH THE FUTURE | Chris Leow
A powerful personal AI system is a bargain: the more of yourself you give up, the better it works for you. That is not a problem that interface or design systems alone can solve. Without philosophy as a core consideration in designing future agentic systems, the bargaining will be done for you.
