Topics in East Asian Language Studies
Hanja: Chinese Characters in Korean Texts I (EAST-UA 302, 12:30-1:45 on Mondays)

Course Description:
Hanja, Chinese characters, makes up more than half of the Korean language‘s vocabulary, and learning it can enhance word recognition, deepen understanding, and expand vocabulary. This course is designed for intermediate-level Korean learners and above to develop their Hanja knowledge through dialogues and short texts. Students will explore the principles of Hanja composition, antonyms, thematic groups, and four-character idioms, allowing them to approach Hanja from multiple perspectives. By the end of the course, students will have a stronger vocabulary foundation and improved ability to expand their Korean vocabulary at the intermediate level and beyond.
