The purpose of Men Entering Nursing is to provide structure for all nursing students within New York University's Rory Meyers College of Nursing to come together as a group and share, inform, and help change the concerns and perceptions that effect men and what it means to be a man in nursing. It will allow students of all tiers of the health care system and faculty develop a framework of support

and assistance for men looking to enter nursing. Through mentorship and encouragement, we continue to make strong contributions to men in nursing, men's health, and the general nursing profession at the local and national level.

NYU Meyers Alumni Making a Difference 🩺💙

Jason Cacioppo, BSN, RN, and Brandon Chan, BSN, RN, members of the NYU Meyers Class of 2026, are now making a difference in the Emergency Department at Mount Sinai Brooklyn. They are putting the knowledge, clinical skills, and compassion they developed at Meyers into practice while helping create meaningful patient experiences in a fast-paced environment.

Their transition to practice is further strengthened by their nurse manager, Casey Scott, MS, RN, an NYU Meyers alum and graduate of the Master’s in Nursing Education program. Through his mentorship and leadership, Casey is helping Jason and Brandon navigate the transition from student nurses to confident professionals.

To our current NYU Meyers students: their journey is a reminder that the hard work you are putting in today matters. Every lecture, clinical experience, simulation, and challenging assignment is preparing you for the moments when you will make a difference at the bedside. Stay curious, stay resilient, and trust the process—you are building the nurse you will become.

💜🩺 Alumni Spotlight: Sam Lee, BSN, RN 🩺💜

NYU Men in Nursing is proud to give a shout-out to Sam Lee, BSN, RN, NYU Meyers Class of January 2025, who is making a difference as an ICU nurse at Harlem Hospital in New York City.

For Sam, one of the most rewarding aspects of critical care nursing is the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population while learning something new every shift. He also values the teamwork that makes excellent critical care possible, from nurses and physicians to respiratory therapists and the many other members of the healthcare team.

Sam credits NYU Meyers with giving him a strong foundation in critical thinking, clinical assessment, and evidence-based nursing practice, skills he now uses every day to recognize changes in his patients’ conditions, prioritize interventions, and understand the rationale behind their care.

His advice to current students?

“Stay consistent, organized, and willing to ask questions. Take advantage of your clinical experiences, learn from your mistakes, and remember to appreciate the positions that you’re given.”

Words to live by! Nursing is a lifelong journey of learning, growth, teamwork, and service. And Sam is putting those values into practice every day.

Sam, we are incredibly proud of your growth and the compassionate, thoughtful nurse you have become. Your patients and colleagues at Harlem Hospital are fortunate to have you on their team. Keep learning, keep asking questions, and keep making a difference! 👏💜

🇺🇸💜 Student Spotlight: Ernesto Pamolarco, NYU Meyers Class of May 2027 💜🇺🇸

NYU Men in Nursing proudly salutes U.S. Army Sergeant and NYU Meyers nursing student Ernesto Pamolarco, an exemplary student and role model who is already finding meaningful ways to serve others through nursing.

This summer, Ernesto completed the Veterans Affairs Student Trainee Experience Program (VA-STEP), gaining hands-on exposure to a remarkable range of specialties, including the Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Operating Room, Surgical ICU, and Hemodialysis.

But for Ernesto, the greatest privilege was caring for those who have served our country:

“What I liked most about the VA-STEP program was the greatest honor of using my nursing skills from NYU to care for one of our most important and underserved patient populations: the U.S. Veterans.”

The three-month program also gave Ernesto a broader appreciation of the many roles VA nurses play in caring for Veterans across the continuum of care.

Reflecting on his NYU Meyers experience, Ernesto describes his journey in one word: “transformative.”

“Whether I am applying skills in clinicals, navigating complex scenarios in the simulation labs, or learning directly from dedicated professors, every aspect has reinforced exactly why NYU’s nursing program is so highly regarded.”

Ernesto’s journey beautifully connects service in the military with service through nursing. His dedication to our Veterans, commitment to learning, and willingness to embrace new experiences exemplify the very best of nursing.

Ernesto, thank you for your service to our country and for choosing to serve Veterans through nursing. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to the difference you will continue to make in the lives of those who have served. 🇺🇸🩺💜

💜🩺 Student Spotlight: Honors student Edmund “Eddie” Lee 🩺💜

NYU Men in Nursing gives a big shout-out to Edmund “Eddie” Lee, current president of NYU’s Men Entering Nursing, who just completed the Clinical Assistant Program (CAP) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City.

Eddie describes the summer externship as a transformative experience:

“I liked how structured the CAP externship was at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Their program has been around for decades and makes sure we get the most out of it.”

But perhaps the most meaningful lesson was one that goes beyond clinical skills. Eddie plans to bring the soft skills and human connection he developed during the program into his nursing practice—especially when caring for patients and families facing end-of-life situations.

He also gained a deeper appreciation for the complexity of cancer care:

“The most valuable things I’ve learned from this program is how cancer looks at the most critical levels, but also how much development and research there is for treatments. Cancer is a word, not a sentence.”

As president of NYU Men Entering Nursing, Eddie is already making an impact beyond the classroom. He is a natural leader, an accomplished student, and a constant source of support for his peers. His growth mindset and emotional intelligence make him the kind of nurse—and leader—that others look to for inspiration. Eddie is a regular blood donor and has since donated over a gallon of blood through the years.

Eddie, congratulations on completing your MSK CAP! We are proud of your accomplishments and excited to see how you translate your knowledge, compassion, and leadership into your nursing career.

💜🩺 Student Spotlight: Jacob Shin | Class of May 2027 🩺💜

NYU Men in Nursing is proud to spotlight Jacob Shin, an outstanding NYU Meyers nursing student who spent this summer gaining valuable hands-on experience as an extern in the Operating Room and perioperative units at NYU Langone Health.

Jacob is the kind of student who leads by example. He consistently participates actively in class, organizes extracurricular events for his peers, and excels academically. Just as importantly, Jacob is known for being kind, thoughtful, and always willing to support those around him.

His summer externship gave him a firsthand look at the complexity of perioperative nursing and the importance of teamwork in caring for patients.

Reflecting on his experience, Jacob shares:

“What I liked most about my externship was experiencing the unique interdisciplinary approach to patient care, where each member of the healthcare team plays a vital and distinct role. Most importantly, my experience taught me what it truly means to be an OR nurse—advocating for patients during their most vulnerable moments while ensuring their safety throughout every stage of the surgical process.”

Jacob’s experience is a powerful reminder that nursing is both a science and an art—requiring clinical knowledge, teamwork, advocacy, compassion, and a commitment to patient safety.

We are incredibly proud of you, Jacob! Congratulations on a successful externship, and best wishes as you continue your journey toward an exciting career in nursing. We can’t wait to see where your dedication, curiosity, and compassion take you! 👏💜

That’s what the NYU Meyers Alumni Social at Lulla was all about!

Current students and alumni gathered for an evening filled with laughter, networking, new friendships, and plenty of reminiscing. From sharing career advice to swapping stories from clinicals and beyond, every conversation was a reminder that once you’re part of the NYU Meyers family, you’re always part of it.

The best connections often happen outside the classroom—and this night was no exception. 🍽️✨

💜🌟 Alumni Spotlight: Olayinka Ogunye, BSN, RN 🌟💜
NYU Men in Nursing is proud to celebrate Olayinka Ogunye, NYU Meyers Class of January 2026, who recently began his nursing career on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.

Born and raised in Brooklyn with proud Nigerian roots, Olayinka embodies the compassion, integrity, and dedication that define exceptional nurses.

As a student at NYU Meyers, Olayinka was known for his perfect class attendance, active involvement in extracurricular events, unwavering professionalism, and ethical practice. More than that, he was someone who brought positivity and joy to everyone around him—a quality that will undoubtedly comfort countless patients and families.

Looking ahead, Olayinka shares:

“I’m looking forward to supporting patients through challenging times in their lives while continuing to sharpen my clinical skills and confidence as a nurse. Ultimately, my goal is to make a difference through compassionate care and professionalism. My advice to future nurses is to never stop learning!”

His words capture the heart of nursing: a lifelong commitment to learning, serving others, and providing compassionate care when it matters most.

💜🌟 Student Spotlight: Peter Studlo 🌟💜

Meet Peter Studlo, a role model Accelerated BSN student at NYU Meyers College of Nursing, whose journey to nursing proves that it’s never too late to pursue a calling.

Originally from Batavia, Illinois, Peter earned a degree in Music Theatre before moving to New York City, where he spent 12 years supporting artists at Lincoln Center Theater after beginning his career at NBC Studios.

What drew Peter to NYU Meyers?

“When I decided to change careers, I knew I wanted an education that combined outstanding instruction with meaningful clinical experience. NYU gives you a front-row seat to one of the most dynamic cities in the world, and Rory Meyers immerses you in real-world nursing from day one. What I appreciate most is that NYU isn’t just teaching me how to become a skilled nurse—it is challenging me to think about leadership, advocacy, and how nurses can improve the health of entire communities.”

Peter hopes to build a career in emergency nursing, where he can combine teamwork, quick thinking, and compassionate care. He is also exploring critical care specialties, including the ICU and NICU, as he continues to discover the many opportunities within nursing.

His advice for fellow nursing students is one worth remembering:

“Embrace everything that student life has to offer—not just the coursework, but the people, opportunities, and experiences along the way. Nursing school is one of the few places where you’re expected to ask questions, try new things, and even make mistakes in a supportive environment. Seek out mentors and take advantage of everything NYU Meyers offers.”

Peter’s journey reminds us that every experience we have can become the foundation for compassionate nursing care. We are excited to watch your story continue to unfold and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make on patients, families, and the nursing profession.

July is Social Wellness Month! 💙

Social Wellness Month is a reminder that our well-being is strengthened through meaningful relationships, supportive communities, and genuine human connection. Strong social bonds have been shown to reduce stress, boost self-esteem, and even contribute to a longer, healthier life.

At Men Entering Nursing (MEN) at NYU Meyers, we celebrate social wellness by bringing people together beyond the classroom. Our annual summer picnic gives nursing students, alumni, and faculty the opportunity to build friendships, strengthen camaraderie, and create a supportive community that extends into clinical practice and beyond.

Nursing is a team profession, and the relationships we build with one another help us become more resilient, compassionate, and effective caregivers. Here’s to celebrating connection, belonging, and the lifelong friendships that begin at NYU Meyers.
