The purpose of Men Entering Nursing is to provide structure for all nursing students within New York University's Rory Meyers College of Nursing to come together as a group and share, inform, and help change the concerns and perceptions that effect men and what it means to be a man in nursing. It will allow students of all tiers of the health care system and faculty develop a framework of support and assistance for men looking to enter nursing. Through mentorship and encouragement, we continue to make strong contributions to men in nursing, men's health, and the general nursing profession at the local and national level.

💜 From No Men in the Classroom to 18% and Growing! 🩺

What a wonderful day at NYU Meyers College of Nursing! 💜

On October 23, 2026, Meyers welcomed NYU alumni, their families, and friends for a well-attended Open House celebrating the art, science, and future of nursing. Current students and faculty served as enthusiastic hosts, showcasing our state-of-the-art Simulation Center, demonstrating cutting-edge instructional technologies, and sharing the power of nursing to transform lives.

One especially memorable moment featured Michael Narain, co-president of NYU Men Entering Nursing (MEN), Class of May 2027, connecting with two NYU Meyers alumni from the Class of 1976. They recalled that there were no male nursing students during their time at Meyers. Today, men make up 18% of our NYU nursing student population! 🙌

From one generation of NYU nurses to the next, this encounter was a powerful reminder of how far nursing has come—and how much stronger our profession becomes when it welcomes people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

A huge thank-you to Michael and all the student volunteers for representing NYU MEN with pride and for demonstrating his teaching skills and commitment to the Meyers community. You helped bring the future of nursing to life! 💜

💜🩺 Alumni Spotlight: Kyrie Blake, BSN, RN 🩺💜

NYU’s Men Entering Nursing (MEN) is proud to celebrate Kyrie Blake, BSN, RN, a former e-board member of NYU MEN who continues to make a difference in the lives of patients through compassionate, inclusive nursing care!

Since graduating from NYU Meyers, Kyrie has built his nursing career across specialties, beginning in telemetry and cardiac step-down before transitioning to the acute care float pool at Mount Sinai’s main campus. His experience reflects the versatility, clinical judgment, and adaptability that are essential to nursing practice.

Reflecting on his experience at NYU Meyers, Kyrie shares:

“What I valued most about NYU Meyers was learning how to care for people from different backgrounds and experiences. As an RN at Mount Sinai’s main campus, I value connecting with patients and making a difference during vulnerable moments. My next goal is to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and continue making an impact through mental health care.”

Kyrie’s journey reminds us that nursing is more than mastering clinical skills—it is about seeing the person behind the diagnosis, honoring each patient’s unique experiences, and showing up with empathy when people need us most.

His aspiration to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) reflects a continued commitment to expanding access to compassionate, patient-centered care, particularly in mental health.

Kyrie, we are proud of you and grateful for the contributions you continue to make to the nursing profession.

💜 Alumni Giving Back at NYU Meyers! 💜

Who better to teach the next generation of nurses than those who once stood where they stand?

Recently, accomplished NYU Meyers College of Nursing alumni, now practicing as RNs and CRNA: Dr. Chris Hsiao, Anastacia Chen, Naro Kim, Jordon Jew, Calvin Tan, Luis Benitez, Gurjot Gill, and Wesley Fong. They returned to campus to help current students sharpen their IV insertion skills. From demonstrating technique to offering tips, encouragement, and real-world clinical wisdom, our alumni brought the classroom-to-clinical connection to life. 🩺💉

Their presence is more than teaching a skill—it is a powerful example of giving back. These nurses generously volunteer their time and expertise because they remember what it was like to be a student and understand the difference that support, mentorship, and encouragement can make.

At NYU Meyers, our alumni don’t just graduate—they remain part of our community. Their willingness to return, teach, mentor, and invest in student success reflects the enduring Meyers spirit of service and professional stewardship.

💜🌏 Student Spotlight: Juan Rafael Solomon 🌏💜

NYU Men in Nursing is proud to spotlight Juan Rafael Solomon, a proud Filipino-American and role-model student from Queens, New York, and a member of the NYU Meyers Class of May 2027!

One of the things Juan appreciates most about being an NYU student is the combination of opportunity and community:

“NYU offers various resources to help in education and prepare me for future careers. But connecting with other students is just as great.”

At NYU Meyers, diversity isn’t simply something we talk about—it is part of what makes our nursing community stronger. Students from different backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and perspectives learn alongside one another, building relationships that enrich the classroom and prepare future nurses to care for an incredibly diverse patient population.

Juan currently plans to pursue pediatric nursing, drawn to the environment, the nurses, and the holistic care provided to both children and their caregivers. But he also understands that nursing is a journey of discovery:

“Preferences may change, so it’s best to keep an open mind.” 🩺

His advice to fellow nursing students is a reminder that success also means taking care of yourself:

“Have fun, exercise, and have a routine that you can stick by consistently.”

Juan, keep embracing every opportunity, celebrating your heritage, building connections, and staying open to where nursing takes you. Your perspective and presence make the NYU Meyers community stronger.

💜🩺 Alumni Spotlight: Yehsayahu “Shaya” Adonolem, BSN, RN, CRNA 🩺💜

NYU Men in Nursing is incredibly proud to celebrate Dr. Yehsayahu “Shaya” Adonolem, an NYU Meyers College of Nursing alumnus who has just completed his CRNA education at Hofstra Northwell and recently passed the CRNA board examination! 🎉👏

Adding to this incredible milestone, Shaya was selected as the graduation speaker for his CRNA cohort, a fitting recognition of the leadership, positivity, and dedication he brought to his program.

Shaya spent eight years as a bedside ICU nurse before pursuing nurse anesthesia. He now looks forward to bringing together his years of critical care experience with his advanced anesthesia education to provide safe, individualized care to patients.

He shares:

“I am looking forward to combining the anesthesia knowledge and skills I have gained over the past few years with everything I learned during my eight years as a bedside ICU nurse. I am excited to provide safe, individualized anesthesia care and guide patients through surgery during some of their most vulnerable moments. I also look forward to continuing to learn and grow throughout my career as a CRNA.”

His advice to current nursing students:

“Trust yourself, push yourself, and never lose sight of why you started. School is difficult, but recognizing the impact you can have on the lives of others makes all the challenges so much more worthwhile. Most importantly, believe in yourself and remember that hard work and perseverance truly do pay off.”

Congratulations, Shaya! From bedside ICU nurse to CRNA, — you have much to be proud of. We are proud to call you a Meyers alumnus and can’t wait to see the difference you make in the lives of your patients. 💜

🌳☀️ Good Food. Great Company. Stronger Connections.

What better way to build community than to step outside the classroom and into the park? 🧺💙

NYU’s Men Entering Nursing (M.E.N.) and NYC Men in Nursing brought together a wonderful mix of nursing students, staff nurses, CRNAs, and faculty for a well-attended picnic at Madison Square Park. It was an afternoon of good food, laughter, catching up, sharing stories, and—perhaps most importantly—building connections across generations of nurses.

From students exploring their future in nursing to experienced nurses and CRNAs sharing their journeys, the picnic was a reminder that nursing is not only a profession—it’s a community. 🤝🏽

A huge thank you to M.E.N. co-presidents Michael Narain and Eddie Lee for organizing an event filled with great food, great energy, and even greater networking opportunities! 👏🏽

Here’s to creating spaces where students, alumni, clinicians, and faculty can connect, mentor, inspire, and support one another—beyond the classroom and throughout the nursing profession.
