The NYU SPS Center for Global Affairs (CGA) and the SPS Division of Programs in Business (DPB) partnered with Cornell Tech startups and Newlab to launch a peer‑assisted fellowship program that immerses students in the rapidly evolving arenas of technology, venture creation, and global problem‑solving.

Students selected for this highly competitive experience were embedded within teams, matched with participating organizations, and tasked with completing a specific project. Participant responsibilities included research, product development, data analysis, and the practical implementation of emergent tech ideas.

Students gained hands-on experience in managing ambiguity, impact analysis, independent research, and problem solving in unfamiliar technical domains.

Recent MSGA graduate Damon Hamman was one of four African climate youth leaders to participate in the UN's 2026 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum in New York City.

Damon served as the moderator of a panel where he interviewed fellow climate activists about empowering African youth to drive climate solutions.

Originally from South Africa, Damon's graduate studies focus on how conflict analysis, intelligence, and emerging analytical tools can help policymakers better understand insecurity across complex regional environments.

Damon hopes to continue applying rigorous research, geospatial analysis, and policy-oriented methods to support institutions working on conflict prevention, counterterrorism, and security.

πŸŽ“βœ¨ Last week’s CGA Showcase was the perfect kickoff to this week's Graduation activities! We gathered to celebrate our MSGA and MSGSCC graduates and to honor a true visionary: our founder, former Divisional Dean Vera Jelinek.

The evening featured a faculty panel on the "Lessons of History," which asked: Can we learn from history, or are "lessons learned" merely lessons waiting to be forgotten?

The stars of the night, however, were our students. From Consulting Practicums to thesis and capstone research, the poster session showed that the next generation of global leaders is ready to turn theory into action.

To the Class of 2026: You’ve done the work. Now, it’s time to celebrate. See you at Graduation and Convocation! πŸ₯‚ πŸŽ“
