TIR-Mitarbeiterin, Michelle Richner, durfte vergangenen Freitag an der offiziellen Eröffnung des Centers for Environmental and Animal Protection (CEAP) an der New York University (NYU) teilnehmen. Neben dem wertvollen Austausch mit Tierschutzjuristen aus ganz Nordamerika bot die Veranstaltung eine Reihe von hoch interessanten Referaten. Höhepunkt war dabei der Vortrag des Begründers der modernen Tierethik, Peter Singer, der sich im Anschluss für Fragen und aufschlussreiche Gespräche zur Verfügung stellte. Die TIR freut sich, dass mit dem CEAP die Implementierung des Tierschutzes auf universitärer Ebene weiter vorangetrieben wird.

Becca Franks, Visiting Assistant Professor at NYU Animal Studies and Environmental Studies, is featured today at Unbound Project - check it out!

This week the Unbound Project is celebrating women protecting our oceans and sea life! Today we’re highlighting Becca Franks, an environmental research scientist with a mission to tell the world why fish matter.

“My goal is to generate scientific information about aquatic animals that helps society see their true value. By true value I mean giving them the chance to express their behavioral and psychological potential so that we can appreciate what we have in common and celebrate what makes them unique. I believe that science can contribute to achieving this goal, but only if we study animals living in environments in which they can thrive.”

Becca Franks' mission for the fishes started in 2012 at The University of British Columbia's Animal Welfare Program. In 2016, Franks became a visiting assistant professor with the Department of Environmental Studies at New York University to continue working on aquatic animal protection.
