Congratulations to Urban Studies prizewinners: Havann Brown and Miki Hertog-Raz. Havann won the Urban Studies/SCA Program Prize for dedicated service to the program and the community at large. Miki won both the Urban Studies/SCA Program Academic Achievement Award for the senior with the highest grade-point average and the Urban Studies/SCA Urban Advocacy Award for intellectual and social engagement in the City through dedicated service to the community at large.

The Urban Democracy Lab at the NYU Gallatin has released its 2026 Working Paper Series, featuring 10 policy proposals designed to support the first 100 days of the administration of Zohran Mamdani in New York City.

Focused on housing, mass governance, and public infrastructures, the series brings together scholars, advocates, and community partners to reimagine essentials like housing, transit, child care, and education as social goods.

We are thrilled to announce the creation of the Daniel J. Walkowitz Prize in Urban Studies for best thesis, capstone, documentary, or research project by an Urban Studies major. Funded by a generous donation, the prize is named in honor of Professor Emeritus Danny Walkowitz, a leader in urban and metropolitan studies at NYU, a prolific historian of labor, culture, and urban life, and a documentary filmmaker.
