Opening with a free public reception on Thursday, June 11th from 6:30pm-8:30pm, Pace University Art Gallery and the Student Exhibition Lab present three Summer 2026 exhibitions exploring how altered photographs are understood. Inspired by historic newsroom prints from the George Stephanopoulos Collection of News Photography bearing visible marks of manual editing, the exhibitions examine how image editing shapes meaning across analog and digital practices.

“Retold: Altered Photography” features contemporary artists Nouf Aljowaysir, Garth Amundson and Pierre Gour, Juyon Lee, Negin Mahzoun, and Wendel White who modify photographic images to reclaim and reframe personal narratives and social histories.

“Cut and Paste” presents a student‑curated selection of archival photographs from the Stephanopoulos Collection that were edited with whiteout, pen lines and physical incisions.

“Open for Interpretation” showcases student works exploring how a single image can be reinterpreted through construction and deconstruction.

On view through July 30, 2026.

Please join us for the opening on Friday, May 1 from 5pm-7pm. ✨🌟✨

The Pace University Art Department is pleased to present Junkyard: Project Studio Senior Capstone Exhibition, featuring the work of graduating BFA students. Over the course of the semester, these artists have pursued sustained, independent investigations into their creative practices—working across sculpture, painting, video, and mixed media. The resulting exhibition showcases ambitious, thoughtful, and inventive work best experienced in person.

The exhibition at Pace University Art Gallery, 41 Park Row, opens with a free public reception on Friday, May 1, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to meet the artists, explore the work, and celebrate the culmination of their time in the program.

Featured artists from the Project Studio B class, taught by Professor Roger Sayre, include Lyndsay Askin, Abby Blackway, Spencer Blyth, Warren Carrington (Dossaboy), William Flashnick, Dominic Grasso, Cori Grodzicki, Cailey Hudnut, Lily Murphy, Joseph Polito, Krishma Sachayansrisakul, Max Sheiner, and Marie Zappia

Blanka Amezkua is a Mexican‑born/Latinx American interdisciplinary artist, cultural promoter, and educator based in New York City. Influenced by folk art and popular culture, her work has been exhibited at institutions including MoMA/P.S.1, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Queens Museum, and El Museo del Barrio. She founded the artist‑run Bronx Blue Bedroom Project (2008–2010) and later operated AAA3A (2016–2024), a living‑room–based alternative space now continuing as AAA3A/migrates.

Cecile Chong is a multimedia artist born in Ecuador to Chinese parents, raised in Quito and Macau, whose work spans painting, sculpture, installation, public art, and video. Her work has been supported by major fellowships including Pollock‑Krasner and NYSCA and is held in collections such as El Museo del Barrio, The Studio Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution. Chong has realized large‑scale public artworks across New York City and has exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally.

Career in Art History Panel
with Dejá Aaliyah Belardo and Cory Torres Bishop
Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 5pm
Pace University Art Gallery
41 Park Row, 1st Floor

Please join us for a Careers in Art History Panel featuring Dejá Aaliyah Belardo, Associate Curator, Visual Art and Civic Programs at The Shed and Cory Torres Bishop (He/Him) Editor, Co-Founder of FORGOTTEN LANDS.

Dejá Aaliyah Belardo (she/they) is a curator and painter based in NYC, originally from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Currently, Belardo holds the position of Associate Curator, Visual Art and Civic Programs at The Shed. Belardo’s goal as a curator is to support boundary pushing artists as they establish themselves in the art historical canon, especially those who have been historically marginalized. Belardo’s professional experience has included major arts institutions in New York City like the Whitney Museum of American Art, Pace Gallery and they also completed the Museum Professionals Seminar and Arts Leadership Praxis with The Studio Museum in Harlem. They have participated in jury panels for residencies, spoken in public program panels, and worked on independent projects with various emerging artists, galleries and non-profits in the Caribbean and New York and across the U.S, as well as maintaining a studio practice of their own.

Cory Torres Bishop (He/Him) Editor, Co-Founder of FORGOTTEN LANDS. Bishop is a Crucian-Rican designer and entrepreneur working at the intersection of art and cultural preservation. He began his career as set designer for Mary Howard Studio before launching his product design and consulting practice. With an Afro-Puerto Rican mother from Harlem, Bishop’s transition from the Caribbean to New York after high school shapes his artistic perspective. Based between St. Croix and New York, he integrates diasporic narratives into his editorial work for FORGOTTEN LANDS, amplifying Caribbean voices in contemporary art and design.
