Alumni Appreciation Thursday:

Today, we like to dedicate this post to Fidel, a hardworking recent graduate who majored in Criminal Justice!

What made you choose ASA?

“Honestly it’s a good college, good people, and it seemed like the easiest way to pave a clear path to what you want and your future.”

What’s something interesting about your life?

“My upbringing has shaped me into who I am. ASA definitely helped me take adult me to the next level. And to make that a little more clear my upbringing was hard because i was being raised by a single mother. This made me want to succeed. To want to be the best possible version of myself I can be. So when i new I entered into asa college it would be hard to get to where I wanted to get to. However it was the first step in a very, very long line of things important to do.”

How did asa help you guys look for a job and get a job after?

“They have a excellent internship program and that would give you a good starting point for the skills you need if its something like criminal justice whether its in medical assistant or whether its for phlebotomy.Ones you’ve gotten that internship downpack when you go for the actual job they tend to make thing tricky when it comes to the interview but if you know what you’re doing and you have a goal in mind you just have to listen to what your adviser says and you’ll get a job it ,might not be what you expect it may take two or three times but you will get a job.”

Khayde Ann Dolphy, 25, Nursing Graduate

On her favorite professor:
“When I had my exit interview with her, she literally went over my resume with me, made changes....made it look pretty! Basically so that it’s ready for an employer.”

Khayde Ann’s advice to current and potential students:

“Remember how hard you worked for your degree.”

“Always take a break. Because when you’re a nurse, it’s a compassionate field. If you’re going into it for the money it’s gonna be very hard to do work. You’re gonna feel like you’re not paid enough. So you have to have compassion for your patients. Think of that person as someone you love because then you’ll always give exceptional care.”

“You have to grind. You have to dig deep. You have to remember why you’re doing it…You can never give up on yourself. You are worth this degree.”

Following new legislation passed in Idaho and Utah, public breastfeeding is now officially protected by the law no matter where you are. We at ASA believe there is no argument that breast milk is the gold standard of nutrition, and that nursing mothers should not be restricted to restrooms. By increasing the rate of breastfed infants in the US, women can prevent 823,000 infant deaths and 20,000 maternal deaths every year, as only can.
