117-08 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica. Big Sister programs include an after school tutorial program with an emphasis on computer literacy; computer classes for adults; a senior citizen recreation program on Saturdays, year-round food pantry that operates two days a week. Food to be donated to the community residents is provided by City Harvest and other agencies. Sponsors two high school age youth groups, one for males (KUDOS) and females (XINOS). The youth learn leadership skills, strengthen their academics, complete community service projects, and have social events in a supervised setting. Gives scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors who apply to the Chapter. Scholarship money is raised through our annual Scholarship Fundraising Luncheon. Has many local projects including annual Easter and Christmas parties for community children; the donation of school supplies to an elementary school in the community; the annual donation of clothing, toys and books for children to a local hospital in the community; and the annual African American History Program presentation which is open to the public.
