Upcoming webinar on December 14th…

NSF Career Grants

Overview of Webinar: The Faculty Early Career Development (Career) Program is an NSF-wide activity that offers prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. The Career Program proposal should contain a well-argued set of activities that will, over a 5-year period, build a firm foundation for a lifetime of contributions to research and education in the context of the Principal Investigator's organization. The proposed project should aim to advance the employee's career goals and job responsibilities as well as the mission of the department or organization.
Targeted Audience: CUNY faculty who hold a doctoral degree and conduct research in a field supported by NSF. Eligible applicants include untenured faculty members who hold at least a 50% tenure-track (or tenure-track-equivalent) position as an assistant professor (or equivalent title) who have not previously received a Career award.
Presenters: John Tsapogas, Director, RFCUNY-APPS and Megan Owen, Professor of Mathematics, Lehman College

RF HR News:

Paid Family Leave (PFL) Changes for 2023: Family Coverage, Payroll Deduction, and Maximum Benefit

Starting January 1, 2023, the list of family members covered under New York Paid Family Leave (PFL) will expand to include siblings with a serious health condition. This includes biological siblings, adopted siblings, stepsiblings, and half-siblings. These family members can live outside of New York State, and even outside of the country.

In addition, as you already know, the New York Paid Family Leave (PFL) law mandates that the cost of PFL benefits must be paid by employees through payroll deduction. Accordingly, the deduction rate (set by New York State) for 2023 has decreased from 0.511% (of an employee’s gross wages each pay period) to 0.455%. The maximum annual cap contribution has also decreased from $423.71 to $399.43. This is $24.28 less than 2022.

The Paid Family Leave maximum benefit will remain at 67% of NYS’ average weekly wage, however the maximum benefit will increase from $1068.36 to $1,131.08 per week.

For questions about Paid Family Leave contact the Leaves Administration team at 212-417-8600 or email .org.

Reminder:

This is a follow up and reminder that the New York City Salary Transparency Law takes effect on November 1, 2022. As per this regulation, employers advertising jobs in New York City must include a good faith salary range (minimum and maximum) for every job, promotion, and transfer opportunity advertised. Accordingly, every Research Foundation job, promotion, and transfer advertisement must include the minimum and maximum salary.

Pursuant to the new regulation, the range cannot be open ended. For example,“$15 per hour and up” or “maximum $50,000 per year” would not be consistent with the new requirements. If a project has no flexibility in the salary they are offering, the minimum and maximum salary may be identical, for example, “$20 per hour.” Advertisements that cover multiple jobs, promotions, or transfer opportunities can include salary ranges that are specific to each opportunity.

The law also requires the salary range to be included anytime there is a posting for an internal promotion or transfer opportunity.

To comply with this requirement, the RFCUNY Personnel Vacancy Notice (PVN) system and job descriptions will be updated (and in production for the effective date of this regulation), making the minimum and maximum salary required criteria.

Thank you.
