The Verrazzano Honors Program at the College of Staten Island

The Verrazano School is a selective four-year honors program that provides motivated and talented students with an exceptional baccalaureate experience at the College of Staten Island/CUNY. Students choose from the full range of majors offered at CSI and receive personalized assistance and guidance as they seek internships, pursue research opportunities, study abroad, and prepare for graduate stud

ies and professional success. Verrazano students are connected to their local and global community through service and leadership and are empowered with lifelong intellectual curiosity and strong personal integrity. The Verrazano School provides a foundation on which students build their skills and talents, explore their interests, and create a positive, memorable, and valuable college experience.

Salvatore Maurano, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in accounting. He completed his capstone with Dr. Patricia Galleta on “Forensic Accounting : Detecting Financial Fraud in Small Businesses.”
Salvatore interned with Philip T. Matthew, CPA, volunteered preparing tax returns, and served as an officer with the Accounting Club.

Jacqueline Marchese, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in nursing. She completed her capstone with Professor Magalie Patnermarakis on “Reducing Postpartum Hemmorrhage: Evidence-Based Nursing.”
Jacqueline worked as a Registered Nurse for A Very Special Place while an undergraduate, and is looking for full time work in a hospital setting.
She advisise new Verrazzano students to “Never say no to opportunities!”
She graduated cm laude.

Aidan Kielty, VZ Class of 2026, earned a bachelor of science in psychology. He completed his capstone with Dr. Valkiria Duran-Narucki on “Increasing Exercise Adherence Using Applied Behavior Analysis.” He balanced life as a student athlete (baseball) and school work adeptly.
He recommends that new students get involved and listen in on all the VELAs! He is pursuing a MS degree in National Security Studies at New Jersey City University.

So we had new student orientation last week, and once again our students overcame hot lava, a giant jump rope, red fish (and blue fish)--it's a Verrazzano thing. . .

We had a big group come by this morning for their free iPad before heading off to English.

Today is Verrazzano new student orientation. Right now a new generation of students is running around the Great Lawn, meeting the people they will be seeing in classes next week. Seems only right to celebrate the journey with some throwback to CSI Commencement in May!

Matthew Hale, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in music and a minor in dramatic arts. His capstone with Professor Carlos Delgado was on “Synthesizers: The Science and History of Technology in Music.” Matthew was a 6 year participant in The Opportunity Network, was a social media intern, and makes lots of music!
He wants to continue working as a stage hand at MetLife Stadium and creating music.
He graduated cm laude.

Emily Eisler-Grynsztajn, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in biology with a minor in psychology. She completed her capstone with Dr. Michelle Esposito on “Dietary Factory Impact on the Oral Microbiome.” She worked her way through school, and plans to apply to Physican Assistant Programs.
Her advice to students is to “get involved, volunteer, and choose fun VELAs to make new friends.”
Emily graduated summa cm laude.

Adriana D'Esposito, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in science, letters, and society with a concentration in early childhood education. She completed her capstone with Dr. Ken Gold on “Effects of Physical Activity Movement Breaks on Childhood Students.” Adriana volunteered with Project Hospitality, and the SI Catholic Worker Community Meals Program. In 2023 she was honors with a Women of Achievement Award through Staten Island Advance/SILive.
She is applying for graduate programs in Special Education.
She advises new students to “take advantage of all the help, guidance, and benefits the program has to offer.”
She graduated magna cm laude.
