The event celebrates and empowers the diverse identities of our new student class while bringing together current students, alumni, and staff. This summer, a group of scholars blazed a trail to Cambridge, Massachusetts with the launch of a new Macaulay partnership with the Harvard Division of Continuing Education (DCE). Macaulay is one of the first U.S. honors colleges invited to join the Harvard DCE Global Partner Network. In addition to rigorous courses, Macaulay students had access to Harvard libraries, campus spaces, student resources, and residence halls. They participated in career and professional development workshops, networking events, and special experiences throughout the Boston and Cambridge area.

“This partnership offers a new way for students to pursue challenging academic experiences, build international connections, and explore life in a residential summer program,” explained Roblin Meeks, Chief Academic Officer.

“We believe that this partnership with Harvard provides our students with a unique opportunity to be immersed in a global academic community, to live and study and grow with scholars and professionals from around the world.” he added.

For Macaulay, the first year of the partnership was an opportunity to gather student and faculty feedback and establish a foundation for future cohorts. Students were able to tap into their Opportunities Funds—a benefit available to all Macaulay students—to make the trip an accessible reality. We hope to continue this opportunity for more students in the upcoming years!

25 Years Later: Reflections of a Generation
Thursday, October 1, 2026, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In August 2001, CUNY's Macaulay Honors College welcomed its first class, just weeks before the September 11 attacks reshaped New York City and the nation. As Macaulay marks its 25th year alongside this milestone anniversary of 9/11, inaugural alumni Deanna Bitetti, Senior Communications Officer at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees; Jesús A. Hernández-García, Esq., Federal Public Defender; and Amanda Perez, journalist and educator, return to reflect on beginning their college careers at a moment that would come to define a generation of New Yorkers.

The program will open with welcome remarks from Ryan Merola, Chief of Staff to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch and an alumnus from Macaulay's third cohort. In conversation with 9/11 Memorial & Museum Director Clifford Chanin, they will discuss how coming of age in New York during a time of profound loss and resilience has remained part of their personal and professional journeys and influenced how they understand service, community, and their roles in the world today.

Help Shape Macaulay’s Civic Focus.
Current Macaulay students: What challenges facing New York City and beyond matter most to you?

You’ll help shape the future of New York, and we want to hear what you see as the most pressing challenges facing our communities.

Your responses to the anonymous Grand Challenges Survey will help guide Macaulay’s inquiry, research, learning, and action throughout the year, while also helping shape the work of the Macaulay Civic Futures Lab—a program that empowers students to explore complex problems and develop real-world solutions.

The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and closes Saturday, September 12. Share your voice! 🔗
