For , SHERP student Avril Silva reported on pest bog restoration in Lithuania, and how it’s being used to not only restore carbon, but protect the country from Russian invasion.

Her reporting was conducted while on this year’s Global Beat reporting trip in Lithuania, and the footage was captured by NewsDoc student .

We’re proud to announce Danielle Mackey as the winner of the 2026 Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award.

The award honors the legacy of Matthew Power by supporting ambitious, deeply reported storytelling. Danielle, who reported from El Salvador for more than a decade, will use the grant to pursue a story on United States-El Salvador relations.

Michael Adam, a James Beard award winner, was named as a runner up. He plans to use the grant to write about a botanical mystery in the Central Pacific Ocean.

We’re honored to continue a tradition of investing in reporting that expands understanding and brings underreported stories to light. Congrats Danielle and Michael!

Pulitzer Finalist ⭐️

Literary Reportage alum is a finalist in the Books, Drama & Music: Biography category for his book “True Nature, the Pilgrimmage of Peter Matthiessen.”

The book follows the life of a talented, complicated writer who rejected conformity and whose experiences informed the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of his work.
