“The strongest safety strategies aren’t just built on preparedness — they’re built on relationships.”

On this episode of You Matter!, Fountain Walker — NYU’s Vice President of Global Campus Safety — returns to talk about what it really takes to lead in campus safety today. He also opens up about a more personal chapter: his father’s reaction when he joined law enforcement, and the years it took to rebuild that relationship.

It’s a reminder that the people on our campuses bring their whole selves — and their own hard-won lessons — to the work.

On this episode of You Matter!, Fountain gets real about the winding path that led him here, and what it taught him about leading with trust, preparedness, and adaptive leadership in campus safety today.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR PHONE TO STRANGERS TO SEND THEMSELVES “DONATIONS.”

If someone in Washington Square Park approaches you asking for donations for a questionable cause, politely decline. Especially if they ask you to hand them your phone so they can Venmo themselves money. They often send themselves much more than the amount you agreed to donate. If you think a situation seems fishy, it probably is. Trust your gut and remove yourself from the situation.
