You might have some idea of which colleges you want to apply to, or feel a bit overwhelmed by the variety of options. That’s OK! However big or small your list is now, there’s one pretty reliable way to figure out which schools deserve your attention."

At NYU Tandon, first-year students don’t just learn engineering—they live it. Through projects that demand creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, they discover what it truly means to be an engineer. This semester, that spirit of innovation was on full display as four first-year students earned the engineering program’s prestigious Gunter Georgi Award.

This year’s winners—Weier Bao, Kevin Chen, Adria Farha, and Amanda Tao—show what first-year students can achieve when they trade the textbook for the lab, using NYU’s network to turn ideas into working prototypes.

Supported by NYU Tandon's many resources and renowned faculty, four first-year engineering students were awarded the Gunter Georgi Award.

NYU Stern School of Business Professor of Business and Society Jonathan Haidt wants his students succeed in both the classroom and their day-to-day lives. While he’s been a professor for more than three decades, in 2014, he began to notice a shift in his students. And it wasn’t just him. Colleges around the nation began seeing higher levels of anxiety and depression across their campuses. Simultaneously, students began feeling less connected.

Stern professor and “The Anxious Generation” author Jonathan Haidt teaches students to engage with positive, device-free habits.

"Four years ago, someone told me getting into NYU was just luck. Today, I know better. It came from sleepless nights and the sacrifices my parents made when they left Guangzhou to build a life in Brooklyn. It came from every essay, every application, and every moment of doubt I pushed through anyway.

To anyone reading this, whatever your story, know this: you are ready for this. NYU will challenge you, stretch you, and, on the best days, absolutely delight you."

NYU Senior Pei Lin explores his journey of navigating college life, revealing insights and experiences that shaped his growth.
