WISeR- Women In Science At Rockefeller

WISeR- Women In Science At Rockefeller WISeR provides a platform for professional development and career guidance for young female scientists at The Rockefeller University.

WISeR was founded in 2013 by three Rockefeller postdocs who wanted to create a stronger, more supportive, and more collaborative community of women in all disciplines of science. WISeR is open to all research assistants, grad students, postdocs, and research associates.

Join us TODAY outside Carson from 6-7 to hang out with high schoolers from around NYC and talk to them about science! (and draw things and make paper air planes)

We're so exited to be co-hosting LAB Out Loud with Rock Edu! First from 5-6pm we'll feature Aniek Ivens Kate Bredbenner Maryam Zaringhalam and Meghan Lockard talking about a time when failure made them a better scientist or helped them do better science. Then we'll host a paper airplane competition and learn-to-draw stations while we socialize and talk about what it's like to be a scientist with NYC high schoolers.

See you there!

Check out WISeR Blogs Editor Maryam Zaringhalam's op-ed in World Economic Forum co-authored with Dr. Mande Holford and Dr. Ivana Gadjanski on the Goldilocks dilemma around Women in STEM initiatives. Feel free to share your thoughts here!

Similar to the choice of porridge in the Goldilocks fairy tale, initiatives to support women in science need to hit the right spot.

Members! Don't forget to register to join our women in STEM-themed Wikipedia edit-a-thon on March 9th. Over 60 of our fellow women in STEM from around the city have signed up, and space is limited. If you need childcare accommodations, please get in touch with Maryam as well. See you there!

Somewhere between 8.5-16% of Wikipedia editors are women. That gender gap translates to a paltry showing of women in STEM, compared to their male counterparts. To combat that lack of representation, Women in Science at Rockefeller (WISeR) has teamed up with Wikipedia to host an edit-a-thon. With the...

This survey is intended to help us communicate the views of New York postdocs on the recent executive order by President Trump restricting immigration and travel from seven majority-Muslim countries. In particular, we would like to help communicate your views to policy-makers and news agencies. Plea...

Our friends at WiSE wrote up a lovely post about Rockefeller's own Dr. Leslie Vosshall!

As mentioned in my previous post, I am dedicating my advocacy tab on my website to discuss the accomplishments of the Women in Science & Engineering (WiSE) group. The WiSE group developed the McClintock Lectures to ensure diversity in the selection of speakers presenting their findings at the labora...
