Gender Studies at John Jay College CUNY

Gender Studies at John Jay College CUNY Gender Studies Program (Major and Minor) at a HSI in NYC
Director: Dr. Dora Silva Santana Students graduating with a B.A.

The Gender Studies major explores how gender and sexuality influence human activity and thinking, historically and culturally, and how these in turn shape human development, behavior, and the processes of justice. Students in the Program examine gender and sexuality from various academic and other perspectives, so they become versatile thinkers with strong skills in critical problem solving, resea

rch, data collection, and writing. The Gender Studies major and minor have been designed in the best tradition of liberal arts study: courses are structured to support independent inquiry, ethical reflection, and critical thought, and they culminate in a final research project that enables students to test their skills on a question of their own choosing. in Gender Studies go on to a wide variety of careers and post-graduate study, including the arts, business, education, health care, media, politics, law, public policy and social work.

‘It is each physician’s ethical responsibility to help his or her patients choose the optimal course of treatment through shared decision-making that is fully informed by evidence-based medical science and definitively shaped by patient autonomy. Anything less puts patients at risk and undermines both the practice of medicine and our nation’s health. As the health of millions of patients hangs in the balance following the Dobbs decision, rest assured this is a fight we will not give up.’

The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization puts lives at risk and potentially criminalizes care.
