It is with great sadness we announce the passing of one of our agency’s dear friends, Sen. Sandra Cunningham. A longstanding supporter for our mentoring mission, Sen. Cunningham always had a deep care for the people behind the programs.

“I’ll never forget how sincere Sen. Cunningham was about learning about the children and families in our organization. And nearly twenty years of working together, we became friends beyond ‘the work’”, said Carlos Lejnieks, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “And when I became Chairman of Jersey City Medical Center, she was the first to say she would attend our event - without hesitation. I learned later, she did this even as her health was failing. That’s who she was - she always showed up at any cost…because she truly cared.” From most accounts, this was her final public event.

BBBS extends our condolences to the Senator’s family.
