Stress during and after pregnancy may have lasting effects on cardiovascular health, according to new research from the University of Delaware.

The study, led by Virginia Nuckols, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, found that women who reported higher stress levels during and after pregnancy were more likely to develop elevated blood pressure years later.

The findings, recently published in the American Heart Association journal, "Hypertension," highlight pregnancy and postpartum as important opportunities to support long-term cardiovascular health.
