Honors College Senior Spotlight

Meet Peyton Swanson, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Collegeville, PA.

Major: Chemical Engineering

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: I loved my honors research experiences, especially working on my honors thesis! My favorite honors experience was traveling to France for the international conference in my research area thanks to the Honors Enrichment Award. It was my first time solo-traveling to a new country, and I gained so much both as a scholar and as a person.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I will be attending the Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed) dual-degree program in Houston, where I will be receiving both an MD and Master of Engineering!

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: An incredibly supportive community that empowers curiosity, initiative, and meaningful impact.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Challenge yourself! I can't emphasize enough the importance of constantly making your life harder and taking the time to enjoy it too. The key lies in finding what you love and pursuing it wholeheartedly. Don't be afraid to do things no one else has done before.

Congratulations to University of Delaware honors senior Mikul Duggal, named the institution’s 2026 High Index Senior — one of the university’s highest academic honors.

Mikul completed his undergraduate career with a 4.0 GPA while pursuing three majors and two minors, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects both intellectual rigor and an extraordinary commitment to scholarship.

Meet Alyssa Wronski, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Lindenhurst, NY (Long Island, NY).

Major: Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Double Major with a pre-professional speech-language pathology specialization and an Applied Voice minor

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: My 3 years as a Resident Assistant in Redding and a Peer Mentor in Honors first-year seminar classes have given me the opportunity to help guide freshmen throughout the exciting new chapter of college. Working across multiple research labs provided interdisciplinary knowledge that will apply to my future career. Studying abroad in Siena, Italy during my sophomore year was truly an enriching experience that changed my perspective on life.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: Attending MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston for a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology and planning to pursue a concentration in voice disorders

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: The Honors College has been a friendly academic community fostering a space for growth and priceless opportunities.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Attend every event, utilize every resource, take advantage of every opportunity UD has to offer, and most of all, enjoy every moment!

Meet Luke Larcher, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Elkridge, MD.

Major: Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Animal Nutrition Minor

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: During my time at UD, I valued the opportunity to become a Munson Fellow, which taught me the importance of building interpersonal connections. I also had the opportunity to engage with my field of study through dairy cattle nutrition research, advanced coursework, and meaningful mentorship.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan to attend The Ohio State University in pursuit of my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: I never doubted that the Honors College believed in me, and their unwavering support empowered me to succeed throughout my time at UD.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Taking advantage of all the opportunities the Honors College provides will set you up for success while building lifelong memories along the way.

Meet Ryan Hoefer, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Edison.

Major: Human Physiology and minor in Medical Humanities

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: Honors Integrated Biology and Chemistry (HiBC) was more than just a set of classes, it was a community that shaped my UD experience. The mentorship I received from honors students who had previously taken the course and from the teaching team taught me how to think critically about science and approach challenges with confidence and curiosity. It also inspired me to give back by serving as a Chemistry Workshop Leader and Biology Lab TA for HiBC, and I do not think I would be in the position I am today without the support and opportunities I received through HiBC and the Honors College.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: Attending medical school at George Washington School of Medicine.

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: The Honors College found ways to challenge me academically, personally, and professionally to grow as a lifelong learner and prepare me for my future goals.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Step out of your comfort zone. Seek out and make the most of every opportunity you are passionate about, you never know where it will take you.

Meet Abby Gott, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Sharon, Massachusetts .

Major: Human Relations Administration
Minors: Human Development and Family Sciences, Leadership

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: The Honors College has been especially meaningful to me because my Honors classes have allowed me to learn and grow in a supportive environment alongside fellow Honors students and professors. I have also enjoyed attending Honors events, from ice cream socials to Honors Planning Board events, which helped me meet new people and feel more connected to the Honors community at UD.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: Working as an HR Generalist at Berkshire Residential Investments in Boston.

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: The Honors College has provided me with a supportive community that has challenged me academically, helped me grow personally, and connected me with motivated peers and professors.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Take advantage of all the opportunities the Honors College provides and say yes to new experiences, because you never know where an opportunity may lead or what it might bring into your life.

Meet Meaghan Leahy, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Arlington, VA.

Major: Liberal Studies - Medical Scholars Program
Minors: Biology and Spanish for Healthcare

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: I have found great value in my honors coursework and the activities associated with them. This semester I went to a concert with a Spanish professor and last spring I built IKEA furniture during an honors sociology course, both of which were incredibly fun experiences and allowed me to apply topics discussed in class to real life scenarios. It has also been amazing working as an Honors Ambassador and connecting with future students and their families.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I will be attending Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: The Honors College has provided me with multiple opportunities to advance my professional development and allowed me to form friendships and connections that will last a lifetime.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Try something new, even if it's out of your comfort zone, because you never know what you'll gain from the experience.

Meet Kate Hatcher, a member of the Honors College Class of 2026 from Huntersville, NC.

Major: Health Behavior Science with a minor in Public Health

Q: What Honors experience has been most meaningful to you?
A: During my sophomore and junior years I was a Munson Fellow in Redding, which was a truly meaningful experience for me. I made so many great friendships and connections that will last a long time after I graduate. Thank you, Professor Burnaby Munson!

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan on attending Wingate University in North Carolina for a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.

Q: What has the Honors College meant to you?
A: Being in the Honors College has meant being connected with motivated and multifaceted students and faculty who are so supportive that it is like a second family in Delaware.

Q: What advice would you give future Honors students?
A: Take advantage of all the opportunities Honors gives you, especially free events, enrichment awards, and mentoring!
