We are so proud of our sister Valerie Light for winning the Warner Award for Outstanding Female Senior! This award goes to a senior with the top impressive academics, involvements, and community service.
Within our chapter, Valerie has always been a sister who has lived out our values and inspired others to become the greatest version of themselves. She has received the Theta Delta Memorial Scholarship for having outstanding academics for the past two years. In the fall, we awarded her as “Miss Mary Caffrey Low Carver” to celebrate how much she inspires our chapter to get involved and pursue their passions on campus. She also served as a Rho Gamma during recruitment to help guide women to find the chapter they feel most empowered in.
Outside of Sigma Kappa, Valerie served as the Editor in Chief of our campus fashion magazine, . Through her four years in UDress, she inspired many sisters to become involved in the magazine and begin setting the foundation for their careers. She has been a Blue Hen Ambassador Tour Guide, conducted two projects of academic research, interned with a global top beauty podcast , is a member of the Honors College, and is active in Jewish student life. When she’s not working, you can find her at the SKouse, on homework dates with sisters at coffee shops, or having sushi nights with her close SKisters.
She says, “the concept of wants versus needs has always been difficult for me… considering I have a shopping problem. I always knew I WANTED to be in a sorority: both of my parents were very involved in the Greek chapters and I watched my sister love the Panhellenic community at her university. I didn’t know how much I NEEDED Sigma Kappa, though, until I won this award and realized how much it contributed to my happiness during my time at UD. I couldn’t have successfully done all that I did without the love and sunshine that my sisters provided to me. I’m 800 miles from home here, and this sorority quickly became my family. These women are my muses— this is a chapter filled with confidence, style, dedication, and support. I will forever be proud to be a Sigma Kappa.”
