Rhododendron 'George Tabor' as described by our Collections Manager: This Rhododendron is not commonly found in the trade, but it should be! It boasts some of the largest flowers for an azalea and produces many flowers per plant as well. Pink-salmon flowers with a speckled throat make for a worthwhile time to stick your schnozz up close and personal and see what the bees see!

Help us build a vibrant garden entry that welcomes and connects our students and community. The Townsend East Lawn and Garden project is almost entirely donor-funded, and we’re close to reaching our goal. As part of that effort, we’re participating in I Heart UD Day—if you’d like to help bring this project to completion, please visit this link: https://givingday.udel.edu/giving-day/112282/department/119111?_hsenc=p2ANqtz--U51ektWEAvkyyK8yoCL6NhZ1RjEzFhvBDC6n9wFQkCAdtKhnylNSXV1Gww-ZGz1SpB7WA7gwgRLLZ_JcfiYxKpPfftQ&_hsmi=416184624.

Our Magnolia biondii, aptly nicknamed Hope for Spring, burst into bloom earlier this week. Our specimen was grown from wild-collected seed in northern China in 1998. As the earliest-blooming magnolia in our collection, its beautiful, fragrant white flowers often last only a few days before frost claims them. This year, instead of frost, we were greeted with snow… which feels about right for the kind of season we’ve been having.
