An internship can change the way you see the world around you. 🌳

Spencer Williams, a junior Wildlife Conservation and Ecology major with a minor in Museum Studies and Public Engagement, spent this summer as an environmental education intern at Brandywine Creek State Park through the Delaware State Parks internship program.

As a seasonal naturalist, Spencer hosted programs on historical and environmental topics, developing skills in interpretation and public speaking.

"But what I found most meaningful, was watching how each visitor appreciated the park and land in different ways. Whether they were attending a program, walking their dog, smelling the flowers, or taking pictures of the butterflies, each person had a different perspective of a relatively small state park."

Interested in finding an internship that connects your interests with hands-on experience? Join us at the Internship Symposium on September 30 to hear from fellow UD students and explore opportunities you can pursue while at UD.

What an exciting journey for an amazing UD alumna! Looking forward to what Anaya Harrison does next. 👑

From Campus 🎓to Crown 👑: Congratulations to UD alumna Anaya Harrison, who will represent the First State on the Miss America stage as Miss Delaware this weekend! Harrison graduated from UD in 2024 as a 4+1 student with a dual bachelor's degree in political science and public policy and master of arts in urban affairs and public policy. As a student, Harrison balanced her coursework with numerous community service endeavors.

Reinforced through her role as a social justice peer educator and student in the University of Delaware College of Arts & Sciences and the UD Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, Harrison’s lifelong passion for public service and commitment to community now serve as the foundation for her work as Miss Delaware 2026.

What could your next research experience look like? 🔬

This summer, Cameron Sawyer, a senior biological sciences major with a minor in genetic counseling, participated in the University of Delaware’s Empower Fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Over 10 weeks, he conducted undergraduate cancer research in Dr. Mitchell Fane’s lab, studying how aging affects neutrophil extracellular trap formation in skin melanoma.

"Through this experience, I was able to gain hands-on research skills while learning how to think critically, troubleshoot experiments, and communicate scientific findings. Most importantly, this internship gave me the opportunity to discover more about myself as a scientist and helped me better understand the type of work I hope to pursue in the future."

“What inspires me is giving back to the UD community and being known as someone my peers can rely on or go to for help.”

That commitment to community is at the heart of why University of Delaware junior Ben Danlasky was selected as the 2026 Seitz Award recipient.

The scholarship recognizes students who exemplify the “We Are Blue Hens” values. Ben is already making an impact across campus as a resident advisor, Blue Hen Ambassador and director of outreach for the Student Government Association.

A double major in criminal justice and political science with a minor in legal studies, Ben is building a UD experience rooted in service, leadership and showing up for others. 💙💛
