It has been almost 20 months since Huixiang Chen died by su***de and accused his graduate advisor of abusive behavior and research misconduct.

His graduate advisor has received a 15 year ban from publishing in ACM, but the University is continuing to pay his $153,238 annual salary.

Tao Li, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was placed on leave Feb. 15, according to a letter in his personnel file obtained under Florida’s public records law.

希望各位朋友都安好!今天要给大家教一个很适用的词语:“讽刺” feng3ci4

Hope everyone’s doing well! Today’s post is about a very practical word: “讽刺” (feng3ci4)

按照http://zdic.net,讽刺是一个动词,意思是用比喻、夸张等手法来指责和嘲笑。比如,“他一直在讽刺我的中文太烂了。” 这句的意思是,他通常在嘲笑我,说我的中文不好。

According to zdic.net, 讽刺 is a verb which means “to use metaphor, hyperbole, or similar techniques to criticize or mock.” For example, “He’s always making sarcastic jokes about my Chinese being bad.” This sentence means, “He frequently makes fun of me by saying that my Chinese is bad.”

你学会了吗?快去找人讽刺吧!

Got it figured out? Time to find someone to 讽刺 😉!

Are you a single dog?

Although its meaning might not be clear at first blink, this Chinglish phrase originates from the the slang word 单身狗 (dān shēn gǒu), literally a "single person" dog. Younger Chinese speakers often use this word in a humorous, self-deprecating way. After entering a relationship, one has 脱单 (tuō dān), or cast off the vestiges of single living.

This "single dog" frequently appears in messaging app stickers, so learn to recognize him!
