All You Beautiful People, Take Heed: Phi Alpha Theta is calling for papers to be presented at its biennial conference! Here's what they say:
"SUBMISSION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1, 2013

Phi Alpha Theta invites all members of the organization to present a paper at the 2014 Biennial Convention. Proposals from all historical fields and time periods are encouraged. The conference is open to faculty and students at all levels including undergraduates, Master’s candidates, Ph.D. students, as well as students who have graduated.

There is no limit to the number of students each chapter may send to the conference to present a paper or simply attend. However, all paper proposals must be approved and submitted by the Chapter Advisor and each student may only present one paper. All presenters must be verified members of Phi Alpha Theta. Any proposal not meeting these guidelines will not be accepted on the program.

Panels will be arranged based on their general theme, i.e. Cold War, 19th Century Europe, 20th Century US, etc. We are unable to accommodate individual scheduling requests. Once the program is finalized, students will receive an email confirming the date and time of their panel. The email will provide the contact information for their panel chair, to whom they should send their paper. Papers should not be sent to the National Office.

Presentations are not to exceed fifteen minutes in length (approximately 8-10 typed, double-spaced pages) and, due to the exorbitant cost, no audio-visual equipment is available.

Happy New School Year, History Humans!
First of all, let us all bow to the Indomitable Lady Epting for giving birth to Elizabeth Rose, with great success and much adoration on August 16th at 12:26 pm. There are adorable pictures on Dr. DiLiberto's page should any of you desire to view Lizzie's adorableness and read his dramatic posts about her ever-increasing glory.
Secondly, feel free to pop in to Wessels Library for the Student Organization Fair from 2-5 pm to see Phi Alpha Theta represented by President Heather O'Brien and Secretary Carmen Laughlin as they sing the songs of sirens, luring new members into the history society. There will also be other fabulous organizations present, and possibly free things like candy. Be there or be square (or busy).

Fascinating stuff, especially for anyone who wants to go into archival work.

Did you know that Alfred the Great is just one of two Anglo-Saxon kings whose will has survived to the present day? Find out more on our Medieval Manuscripts blog http://bit.ly/14sS0pE

It is with a barrage of cheers and wild dancing that we greet the news that Dr. Susan Epting has been hired as a member of Newberry College's faculty. Celebration is in order and will be arranged at the earliest and most convenient possible time in the fall semester. Suggestions are welcome :)
