The Expressive Arts Institute foundation course is sponsored by
the Expressive & Creative Arts Graduate Program, with the Holistic Graduate Programs, part of the Department of Counseling, Leadership and Expressive Arts at Salve Regina University.
This professional development / continuing education course has been designed to provide counselors, educators, healthcare practitioners, therapists, social workers, and those in other related fields, including creative business leaders and community organizers,
with foundational training in the expressive and creative arts.
Participants learn about facilitating self-discovery through creative art-making, through body-centered awareness, embodied mindfulness, stress-reduction related to health and wellness, the development of insight and the expansion of creative awareness when working with groups or individuals.
The course will focus on using an intermodal approach
to the expressive and creative arts,
concentrating specifically on an integration of the visual arts with movement, sound and expressive writing.
An experiential learning approach, including class discussions on the applications of the expressive and creative arts and research supporting their efficacy will be combined with hands-on exercises. The ability to participate in the experiential portion of this work is a vibrant aspect of the program.
Upon successfully completing all three weekends of this course and all assignments, students will receive a letter of attendance from the course, and will have received this introductory / foundational training as an Expressive Arts Educational facilitator. Attending this foundational training also is one way to satisfy the prerequisites to later move onto the full Graduate Certificate program. (see below)
This EA Institute is offered as a non-credit course, so it's open to all, including international participants, and undergraduate students (with special permission).
CE’s: For 2018, CE’s (Continuing Education hours) will be available from: N.A.S.W. – RI .
——
Note: in addition to the foundation courses,
We also offer a full Graduate Certificate Training program
in the Expressive and Creative Arts, for Graduate Credit.
All the courses in the Graduate Certificate program are also in a hybrid class format: on weekends spaced out with approximately 5 to 6 weeks of Guided Independent Study in between each weekend to make it easier for students coming from various parts of the country or even those outside the country. We have had students come to our EAI and CGS/CAGS program locally, regionally and internationally.
