Juneteenth takes place on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery throughout the United States. It marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

As Angels Davis once said, “Today on Juneteenth, the day we celebrate the end of slavery, the day we memorialize those who offered us hope for the future and the day when we renew our commitment to the struggle for freedom.”

Happy Pride Month🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Pride month (June) is dedicated to celebrate and commemorate the LGBTQIA+ Community. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside of the United States. So Happy Pride Month Niagara students ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

MAAB recognizes and respects November as Native American Heritage Month, where people reflect on the impactful history, struggles, and inclusion of Native American Identities. The flag you see is specifically the Haudenosaunee, which represents the flag of the five original nations (Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk). The flag shows the geographical placement as well as the symbols of powerful governance and unity of the nations under the tree of peace, between the American and Canadian nation-states.
