We need historians not just to understand the past, but to shape what comes next.

Historical thinking helps us ask better questions, evaluate evidence, and make informed decisions about the future.

As we look ahead, the work of historians remains essential to public life, education, and a thriving democracy.

What should we better understand about the past as we think about the future?

Alum Highlight!!!

This is Noah Kaczmarek. He graduated as a dual major of Environmental Science and History from Niagara. After graduation, he began working at a law firm, but soon realized that “my heart was not in it, and that I was meant to be an archeologist,” he said.

In 2023, he began graduate work in the Viking and Medieval Norse Studies master’s program.

Kaczmarek spent his first year at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. He helped the team uncover a significant volume of Viking Age Artifacts.

He is spending his second year at the University of Oslo, and will finish the program after writing a master’s thesis on the collaborative efforts between professional archaeologists and hobbyist metal detectorists at archaeological sites in Europe.

Congrats to Noah for following your dream!!
