🌑 The Dark Side of the Moon…

Sit back in the Old Dominion University Michael and Kimthanh Lê planetarium as you go on an audial and visual journey through one of the most famous progressive psychedelic rock albums of all time. This event will have two showings on February 27th, will all funds going towards the ODU Society of Physics Students.

Tickets are purchased at the door for $5, cash only. Doors open at 6:30PM for the first show, and doors open for the second show at 8:00PM.

🎃 110 Pumpkins, 10 stories, 15 teams, one winner.

Last week, we hosted the 28th annual ODU SPS Pumpkin Drop, which was an absolute blast! Special thanks to all teams who competed and for providing our raffle prize and attending. Now, you may all rest... calculate your design flaws, and prepare… for this great challenge never truly ends… muahahahaa!

🎃 Seven days…

At long last, the 2025 SPS Pumpkin Drop is here! The rules are simple- save these pumpkins from certain doom as they tumble from the great heights of the ten-story Batten Arts & Letters building and become the champion of the Pumpkin Drop. This year, we have eight teams that think they have what it takes to win the Pumpkin Drop… or will they simply face their doom? The Pumpkin Drop takes place on Thursday, October 23rd, at 12:30PM. Costumes are highly encouraged, and we will be hosting a raffle with to gift a case of Red Bull to anyone in the audience that wishes to enter. I’ll see you all there… muahahahaa!

🌕 Ducti lumine lunae…

Our moon is estimated to be around 4.5 billion years old, being formed by debris from a large collision between young Earth and a Mars-sized cosmic body. These photos of our Moon were captured and processed by our telescope team, the second photo being unedited aside from small bumps in contrast values. Original file size: 78mb

What’s up? Oh, right- this is… 🛰️

Enjoy two newly developed photos from our telescope team. The first image is a beautiful capture of the Bubble nebula, NGC 7635. The “bubble” is created by stellar wind from a massive, hot central star. Say hello, it’s cradled in the arc!

The second photo contains the constellation Pleiades, also known as Seven Sisters. This cluster contains hot, blue, luminous stars that are northwest of the constellation Ta**us. The Pleiades cluster is among one of the closest star clusters to Earth, being only 444 light years away and visible with the naked eye.
