Miasha O'Neal's first impression of ODU wasn't a campus tour or a phone call. It was a doctor who treated her mother when she had life-threatening injuries. That doctor was L.D. Britt, MD, who is the Henry Ford Professor of Surgery and the Edward J. Brickhouse Chair in Surgery and Chair of Surgery at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences.

Dr. Britt's compassion left an impression that inspired her to choose ODU not once, but twice. Today Miasha holds a Master of Public Health and a Doctor of Health Sciences from ODU.

"[Dr. Britt] takes time out of his schedule to talk with you and guide you. When I wasn't sure whether to pursue an MD or stay on an academic path, he sat down with me and helped me map out both options."

She worked the night shift, came home, slept for a few hours, and then opened her laptop. Nita Shahi did that for years.

Nita immigrated from Nepal at 18, became a registered nurse, and put herself through graduate school one overnight shift at a time, becoming the first in her family to earn an advanced degree along the way. This spring she finished her MSN-FNP through ODUGlobal. She is already enrolled in the doctoral program. Salvatore Carbone sees the way nutrition is becoming more important in healthcare. As an associate professor and program director for the new M.S. in Nutrition at ODU, he's excited to train students who want to be part of health innovation.

"What continues to motivate me today is the ability of nutrition science to bridge prevention, clinical care and long-term health outcomes in a very tangible way," Dr. Carbone said.

Nutrition is more than food. It's a powerful tool for improving health outcomes, preventing disease and impacting healthcare innovation. We know payment flexibility can make a difference.

That’s why the Fall 2026 first eight-week payment plan is available beginning Aug. 24, 2026, for ODUGlobal students enrolled in the accelerated eight-week term.

Students can pay tuition and fees in two installments, with payments due Aug. 24 and Sept. 24. The enrollment fee is waived for students who sign up for the first time.
