Congratulations to senior Chemistry Teacher Education major, Luke Madden, on being selected as a Robert G. Bone Scholar for the 2021-2022 academic year! Being designated a Bone Scholar is the highest honor an Illinois State University undergraduate student can receive.
During his time at Illinois State, Luke has been an active regular and executive member of the University Scholars Program, Chemistry Club, Kappa Delta Epsilon, the Big Red Marching Machine, and has worked as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. Outside of school activities, Luke volunteers his time with the Scouts BSA program, is an adult leader in his hometown troop, and hopes to help members work towards their Eagle Scout rank as he is an Eagle Scout himself.
In the classroom, Luke has pushed to work hard in his courses and has made the Dean’s list for the past four semesters. Luke has also been recognized for his academic and extracurricular work and has been awarded the POLYED Award in Organic Chemistry, Robert Duty Service Award, and is a Sol Shulman Scholarship Recipient. He is a proud member of the Boesdorfer Lab group and has presented and been recognized for his work centered around chemistry education curriculum at both local and national ACS Conferences. After graduation, Luke plans on working as a high school chemistry teacher in the Chicago suburbs.
Luke would like to thank his mother and father, Petrice and Jeff Madden, for all of their guidance throughout his academic career and would also like to thank his friends for their support. We are truly of you, Luke, and we know you will do a fantastic job representing our department!
