May his memory be a blessing

Remembering Jim Hartung. Coach. Olympian. Sammy.

Fra Hartung (Nebraska, '78) passed away on January 10th, 2026 at the age of 65. His gymnastics accolades included 22 All-America awards and seven NCAA individual titles during his career from 1979 to 1982. He was a two-time member of the United States Olympic team, helping the U.S. earn its first and only team gold medal at the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympic Games. He served as an assistant coach for the Nebraska men’s gymnastics team for the past 19 years.

May his memory be a blessing.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health matters every day, but this month especially, we focus on the challenges men face and the strength it takes to speak up.
Too many of us suffer in silence. Nearly 1 in 5 men experience anxiety or depression, yet the stigma still stands in the way of seeking help.

At Sigma Alpha Mu, we’re committed to creating a culture of care and connection. Let’s support one another by:
• Reaching out and checking in with your brothers via text or phone
• Normalizing real conversations
• Encouraging help-seeking without judgment
• Sharing resources and support

ΣΑΜ CLD '23
Recently our chapter had the amazing opportunity to attend chapter leader's day in Indiana. We had an amazing time, learned much, and had even more fun! We were excited to meet other chapters and make new connections moving forward. We hope to attend next year and have big plans coming up! Thank you to everyone who was able to put this on!

Attention Alumni: Sigma Alpha Mu Tailgate for Illinois State University’s Homecoming game, this upcoming Saturday, October 15th 2022. We'll be at lot F43 (602 dry grove street will bring you to the tailgate), parking for the event is available at the Bone Student Center. Also feel free to bring whomever you would like to the tailgate as your guest, we just ask that you give us a heads up about how many people we need to account for. The tentative agenda for Saturday would be as follows:

11:30am-Meet at Lot F43 for the tailgate!

2pm-The game starts at 2pm so those of you who have purchased tickets for the game would be then going to attend, while other Sammy men can go to Medici or DP dough in Normal to enjoy a late lunch.

-After both events are done, Sammys are welcomed to come over to Brother Mahkri’s apartment for card games.
