Illinois State University Ceramics

Illinois State University Ceramics This page is designed to share the work and activities of students, faculty and alumni of the Ceramics Area at Illinois State University.

The Illinois State University Ceramics program offers a diverse approach to the materials and processes involved in the production of ceramic art. The area has two full time faculty, Albion Stafford and Tyler Lotz. Emphasis ranges from function and "the vessel" to sculpture and installation based work. Students in the program will gain an understanding of the technical concerns involved in ceramic

production such as clay/glaze formulation and mold making, while simultaneously developing the critical thought and historical understanding necessary to apply those processes to finished works. The graduate program in ceramics is a three-year program that provides studio space, open access to materials and facilities and the potential for gaining teaching experience. Students select faculty members from throughout the department to work with, allowing for an interdisciplinary program to be built meeting the demands of each individual student. The use of other materials is strongly encouraged in the program, and students have easy access to the other studios and equipment in the 3-D area.

Congratulations to Tyler Kiefer who is the newest recipient of the Alcorn Family Scholarship! Tyler will be taking a workshop at Anderson Ranch Art Center this summer in Snowmass, Colorado where he will learn digital fabrication processes for clay with Del Harrow. The Alcorn Family Scholarship was started with the generosity of Gary and Trish Alcorn to help send an Illinois State ceramics student to attend a summer workshop in clay. Thanks Gary and Trish!!!
