Junior Kassy Ramirez is turning her passion for sports, photography, and storytelling into hands-on experience with Illinois State University Athletics. A sports communication major with a minor in Spanish from Middlebury, Indiana, Ramirez works with Redbird Creative, where she helps create content for Illinois State Football and has traveled with Illinois State University Gymnastics to photograph meets.

“I’ve been able to turn what I learn in the classroom into real-world experience,” Ramirez said. “I’m especially proud of how much I have grown as a photographer and content creator since coming to ISU.”

Ramirez is also president of Sports Girls Club and a member of Latinas in Communication. She hopes to use her experiences to create opportunities for other students, particularly women interested in careers in sports.

“Sports can be a male-dominated field, and I want to help create a space where women feel supported, confident, and know that they belong,” Ramirez said. Looking ahead, she hopes to build a career in sports media, marketing, and content creation, using storytelling to help teams, athletes, and organizations connect with their audiences.

“I’m a Redbird who uses creativity to bring sports to life,” Ramirez said.
