This week, local high school Bloomington High School hosted a College and Career Fair. To represent the ISU Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management, Gamma members Nathan Pomey (Incoming Director of Recruiting and Outreach, pictured here), Rudy Morr (Current Director of Recruiting and Outreach), and Frankie Ferneau (Incoming Chapter President) attended the event.

Great job to these Gamma members for talking to local high school students at this recruiting and outreach event! We feel it is so important students learn before college about the value of being in the industry, countless job opportunities in insurance, and that this is an exciting & evolving industry to be a part of! 🤩

Hey Gamma Members, this Thursday 4/13 we are doing a Gamma Pie in the Face fundraiser! It will be from 10:30-1:45 PM at Schroeder Plaza. Come support GIS and take your shot at pie-ing the President along with fellow Gamma members!😃

Also as a reminder, the closed event Katie School Recognition Dinner is tonight at 5:15PM in the Bone Student Center Prairie Room, Bus. Professional. Lastly, there is a YWCA Classroom Painting Volunteering event Thursday 4/13 and Data Wrangling Workshop 4/14! Please see the details via the email sent and make sure to sign up! There’s a Lunch and Learn today, our General Meeting TONIGHT at 6:30, a writing workshop on April 14th, YMCA painting on the 13th, Street Clean-up on the 19th, and more to come! 👀 We have a lot more events to finish out the semester strong. This weekend, members of the Alpha Kappa Chapter had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2023 WSIA Extreme Risk Takers Symposium in Chicago. 🏙🤩 Students from 22 universities and around 20 companies were there! Our members had a great time networking with industry professionals and students during the career fair and round table discussions. At night, students got to show off their bowling skills at Lucky Strike and have fun at the arcade! During the second day, we learned a lot during information sessions as well! Topics included D&O, Environmental Risks, Celebrity/Concert Risks, and Claims.💼

Thank you so much to our very own Illinois State Katie School of Insurance for hosting this special event, Debbie Babcock for all the hard work she does, our Gamma members for helping, the WSIA Education Foundation, and all of the WSIA career fair representatives and speakers for making this event a huge success. We cannot wait for next year!

Hey Gamma Members, ISU 2022 Grad and former Gamma member Laura Henao Botero will be a panelist during the discussion at tonight’s 4th Annual Power of an Inclusive Workforce Event! Please give her a big Redbird welcome back and read her amazing bio below!🤩

Laura Henao is a Primary Casualty, Associate Underwriter at Markel . She graduated from Illinois State University in 2022 with a double major in Risk Management and Insurance, and International Business. During her college years, she was a part of multiple student organizations, including Gamma Iota Sigma, where she served as DEI Director; moderating The Power of An Inclusive Workforce panel last year. The Summer of Junior year, she interned with Munich Re in the Summer Leadership Development Program, and focused on the Public Entity space. Briefly following graduation, she started working at Markel as a part of the Undergraduate Trainee Program focusing on General Liability, and three months after she got promoted to Associate Underwriter.

Laura, is an only child, born and raised I Colombia, Medellin. In 2015, she moved to the United States, and now lives in Chicago, IL.

Laura is an active learner, and someone who loves to radiate positivity to everyone around her. Her passion of creating strong interpersonal relationships, has led her to be active in the insurance community, participating in multiple events and organizations around the Chicagoland area.

The biggest event this week and one of the biggest all year is the 4th Annual - DEI Power of an Inclusive Workforce Event on Wed., March 8th, in the Brown Ballroom (Bone Student Center) from 5-8p.m. The evening will consist of a career fair, DEI Panel, free dinner, and numerous raffles!
