This Memorial Day, we pause to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Walsh University remembers and gives thanks for the courage, selflessness, and dedication of the men and women who gave their lives defending our freedoms. As we commemorate 250 years of service and sacrifice, we reflect with gratitude on their legacy and the countless families forever changed by their bravery.

Welcome to the Walsh community, Dr. Monaghan!

Walsh University is delighted to announce the appointment of James “Jim” Monaghan, Ed.D., as its new Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Dr. Michael Dunphy, who will conclude his service as Vice President for Academic Affairs on June 30, 2026. In this role, Monaghan will serve as the University’s chief academic officer and a member of the President’s Cabinet, providing vision and leadership for Walsh’s academic enterprise in support of the University’s Catholic mission and commitment to academic excellence. Earlier today, we raised a glass in celebration of the 588 incredible Walsh University graduates including two of our own student workers, Haruki Imanishi and T.O.W.E.R. award winner Hannah Blawas! 🎓 To the Class of 2026, this milestone is just the beginning of your journey as alumni. We’re so excited to see where your passions, talents, and dreams take you next. As you step into this new chapter, remember you’ll always have a place to call home. 💛 We hope to see you around this summer at an alumni event or simply stopping by to say hello. Tonight, we are beyond proud to celebrate Christine Muniak, Louisville City Schools’ 2026 Teacher of the Year… and what a story it is.

For 26 years, Christine hasn’t just been teaching—she’s been lighting fires. 🔥 She’s built the foundation of our business and career programming, helping students walk out of her classroom with more than just a grade… but with real-world skills, confidence, and a vision for their future.

From Accounting to Web Design, Personal Finance to Career Exploration—Christine’s classroom is where possibility becomes reality. She’s spent years connecting students with local professionals, organizing job shadows, and bringing real-world experiences directly to our kids. Because of her, students don’t just dream about their future—they see it, experience it, and chase it.

And the impact? It’s incredible.
✨ Students turning job shadow experiences into full-time careers
✨ Former students working for organizations like the NFL
✨ Graduates reaching back out to share how her lessons helped them buy their first car or invest in their future

That’s the kind of legacy you can’t measure with a test score.

Christine is the definition of all in. She’s a leader, a mentor, a curriculum powerhouse, and a trusted voice for students who need support or someone to celebrate their wins. She gives her time, her energy, and her heart—long after the final bell rings.

And if that wasn’t enough… she’s also poured thousands of hours into coaching track and cross country—earning NBC Coach of the Year NINE times and Stark County Coach of the Year twice. 🏃‍♀️

When asked about her greatest accomplishment, she didn’t mention awards. She talked about the emails. The ones from former students who are thriving because of what they learned in her class.

That says everything.

Christine, you represent the very best of what it means to be a Louisville Leopard. You teach with purpose, lead with heart, and inspire futures every single day.
