The Mercyhurst University Citizen's Safety Academy provides situational awareness and handgun familiarization to everyday citizens interested in learning more about defending themselves and their loved ones. The education is conducted in such a manner that adult needs and interests are met in a user friendly atmosphere. Staff are patient and directly interact with students in classes where the pop

ulation is intentionally kept at a manageable number. All staff are vetted by the Municipal Police Training Academy and have multiple years of experience in law enforcement, the military, education, handgun training and defensive tactics. On Saturday, July 27th, from 9:00 AM until noon, the Mercyhurst University Police Academy will be teaching a free women’s self-defense course at Elmwood Presbyterian Church, 2816 Elmwood Avenue, Erie. Topics will include situational awareness, defense with weapons other than fi****ms, and general self-defense tactics. This class is taught in a comfortable, low stress environment and the only requirement is an interest in learning how to be safer in an uncertain world. POLICE ACADEMY TO HOST INFO SESSIONS
Class 114 at the Municipal Police Training Academy will begin July 8. Anyone interested in registering must first attend an information session. Sessions will be held on Wednesdays, March 20, April 3 and 17, May 1 and 22, and June 5, at 6 p.m. at the Police Academy, 5999 State Rt. 89, North East. Call 814-725-6121 for more info.
