LASO Smith College

LASO Smith College Smith College's Latinx Organization LASO encourages an active cultural exchange between Latin American students of different ethnic origins and their allies.

The purpose of Latin American Students' Organization (LASO) is to provide a supportive network for Latin American students at Smith College, who at times may find the need to identify with people of their own cultural background and heritage. LASO is an organization that promotes awareness on social justice, issues facing Latinxs on Smith campus, and encourages discussions concerning the Latin American community both domestically and abroad.

On Otelia Cromwell Day, a day to honor the first African American graduate from Smith College, Laso will be screening “Black in Latin America” and having a discussion as part of this day. This workshop aims to address anti-Blackness in Latin American communities by acknowledging that non-Black Latinx folks can perpetuate anti-Black racism. By challenging ourselves and our communities to understand the roots and implications of colonization, we aim to create a further understanding that racism does not impact all of us in the same way.

Join us in Mwangi Cultural Center on Thursday November 7, from 3:15-4:45pm
