The unnecessary pressure put on high school students to exceed appropriate academic expectations causes immeasurable emotional harm, impacting their mental health beyond anything COVID-related. As a practitioner, I cannot condone the irreparable damage caused by an overly aggressive parent who places a premium on getting A's over the emotional health of their child.

“My school is giving too much work,” a 10th grader wrote during the pandemic. “At first, this was just a break from school, but now all I feel is stress, anxiety and pain.”

ACT has announced new dates for fall. Every student applying to college should plan on taking either the ACT or SAT. "Test optional" should only be used in cases of accessibility - it does not mean students should forgo testing. The updated fall 2020 ACT national test schedule is below.
